“No Human Is Illegal, Pt.2” (Bradley Onishi and Daniel Miller; Straight White American Jesus podcast) It’s in the Code ep 159

Allie Beth Stuckey advances a typically xenophobic, right-wing immigration agenda, focused on using misinformation and scare-mongering to justify keeping (primarily) non-White immigrants out of the US.
And she says that she does so for “biblical” reasons. But what are these reasons? What biblical rationale does she offer? And how does she deal with the numerous Bible passages that command care for the “foreigner,” the “sojourner,” the “stranger among you”?

Listen to this week’s episode as Dan tackles these issues, uncovering a pattern of selective appeals to the Bible that is typical of high-control conservative Christianity.

Democrats seek ‘immediate answers’ after reported arrests of firefighters by US border agents

In Minneapolis shooting, an increasingly familiar pattern of violent extremism : NPR

But there are also numerous references to extremist movements on the right. Among the scrawls on the weaponry are mentions of Waco, a standoff in Texas between the federal government and a religious group that ended in the deaths of dozens of people, including children. Also referenced in the materials are the Weavers, the family at the center of the 1992 Ruby Ridge standoff in Idaho. Both of those events have long animated far-right antigovernment and militia sentiments.

The materials are filled with callbacks to neo-Nazi and violent white supremacist killers. Particularly influential, it seems, is a 2019 mass shooting in New Zealand, where a violent white supremacist and Islamophobe killed 51 people at two mosques. But also, in the notebook, the names of several 9/11 hijackers are listed along with other mass killers whom Westman apparently emulated...

"Mr President, I invite you see your big beautiful face on a banner in front of the Department of Labor because you are really the transformational president of the American worker,” Chavez-DeRemer said. Time sensitive -- Deadline: September 3, 2025: the looming threat of abortion rights being stripped from female veterans through the VA -- How to leave a public comment opposing the VA’s anti-choice rule. (Jump to 34:30 in the video if you want to get to this part of the discussion quickly.)
  • Comment here: https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/VA-2025-VHA-0073-0002
  • Speak from your own experience, your own values, your own understanding of what this country owes its veterans.
  • The most effective comments include your personal or professional perspective, identify how this rule would affect you or your community, and offer a specific recommendation or concern.
  • If you're a veteran, spouse, caregiver, or healthcare provider, your real-life experience is especially important for regulators to hear. Do not copy and paste someone else’s words. Anti-choice extremists are already doing that. We’re better than that. The government weighs unique, substantive comments more heavily. Speak in your own voice.

Opinion | DHS fights a holy war on social media - The Washington Post

The videos conjure a veritable holy war, in which God's soldiers prepare to battle evil, a.k.a. undocumented immigrants. These adversaries are largely implied, rendered as shadows visible only through night vision goggles — a stunning bit of dehumanization. As in a lot of propaganda, facts get twisted to fit the message. The quote from Isaiah is wildly out of context. Read the chapters from which it is drawn, and you'll learn that God was asking Isaiah not to spearhead a masked army, but to warn against profligacy and corruption. "Learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor," reads a verse in Chapter 1, "defend the fatherless, plead for the widow." In other words, nothing to do with a helicopter full of people armed to the teeth...

Fact-checking RFK Jr.’s claim that pediatricians recommend vaccines for money | PBS News

Is your pediatrician making profits off childhood vaccines?

It costs money to stock, store and administer a vaccine.

Pediatricians sometimes store thousands of dollars worth of vaccines in specialized medical-grade refrigeration units, which can be expensive. They pay to insure vaccines in case anything happens to them. Some practices buy thermostats that monitor vaccines' temperature and backup generators to run the refrigerators in the event of a power outage. They also pay nursing staff to administer vaccines.
