The Small-Town Cop Who Helped ICE Deport His Ingram, Texas, Neighbors — ProPublica

But it wasn’t just Ingram’s Latino community that was reeling. For Ingram’s non-Hispanic business owners, including many Republicans in a county that voted 77% for Trump in the 2024 election, the immigration crackdown was becoming an outrage. It was taking people they worked with and knew well. It was interfering with flood reconstruction. It was hurting the local economy…

Mississippi attorney general rules fatal police shooting of one-year-old as ‘justified’

The Mississippi bureau of investigation, which investigated the shooting, alleged that the driver “drove in the direction of the officers, almost striking one”. But the civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is representing the family, released an independent autopsy that indicated Wiley was shot from the side of the car, not the front, which contradicted officers’ statements that Ferrell headed towards them...

Georgia police officer put on leave after family’s pet donkey killed during search

“They claimed he ran up to them braying and they thought they were in danger and shot and killed him after trying to taze him,” Israel wrote in her Facebook post, which featured a photograph of her kneeling by the fallen donkey.

“HeeHaw was raised in the house and did petting zoos [and] never knew a stranger. And was shot and killed in his own pasture for doing what donkeys do. Alerting to a stranger. There is no way this is legal...”

2 former Phoenix police officers arrested in violent traffic stop make 1st court appearance

Prosecutor Tom Van Dorn told a judge that the defendants used their authority as police officers to cause harm to the victims. A male driver and a female passenger told investigators they were beaten and tased by the officers during an Aug. 5 traffic stop near 19th Avenue and Broadway Road.

“These offenses were committed by on-duty police officers in a fully marked Phoenix police Tahoe, using the indicia of their lawful authority to affect an unlawful detention with no lawful basis, according to the investigators,” Van Dorn said. “They used extreme and unjustified violence against these victims.”…

Nebraska school district asks police to stop using shock gloves on students

“I can’t even imagine walking down the hallway and seeing a peer of mine being electrocuted in a place that is supposed to be a safe space for students,” said Nora Wessel, a senior at Omaha Central high school. “Yet, this is now a very real possibility. These are adults we are supposed to be able to trust, but these weapons create a barrier for our students to turn to resource officers when needed.”…

The Supreme Court Is Building Its Own Massive Police Force - POLITICO

For years, the force sat at fewer than 200 officers, but now officials are aiming to more than double the ranks of the agents and officers who protect the justices and the Supreme Court’s building.

The push for a rapid security buildout stems from the substantial threats to the justices at a moment of growing political violence in the U.S. and the sense that the system has just not been up to the challenge task of keeping them safe. That’s a belief that appears to be shared by at least some of the justices themselves…
