Whitmer to propose free school meals, Pre-K for All, reconnect expansion in budget proposal

"Every kid deserves a high-quality public education from pre-K through graduation. I'm proud of the progress we've made for students, educators, and schools, but we're not done. "If Republicans want Democrats to provide votes to fund the Trump administration, they can start by restoring the health care that they ripped away to finance more tax handouts for billionaires," she wrote.

Medicaid cuts may impact special education services - The Washington Post

The billions that public schools get each year in reimbursements from Medicaid for services such as counseling and speech therapy are at risk, advocates warn...

Kaysee Grogan, a special-education teacher at Asheville Middle School, said Medicaid-funded services provide students with dedicated treatment for their medical needs, allowing her to focus on teaching.

A nonverbal student in her class received a tablet that improved his communication. Another student received a new wheelchair to ensure access to the entire school.

Money, Lies, and God: An Interview with Katherine Stewart (Warren Throckmorton; Telling Jefferson Lies: Debunking the Myth that America was Founded as a Christian Nation)

Today Warren features an interview with Katherine Stewart, the author of the New York Time bestseller Money, Lies, and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy. The segment is timely in that we discuss income disparities accentuated by the passage of the recent Trump budget. The dominance of Christian nationalism in the current administration isn't helping many of the foot soldiers who helped bring Trump to power.

Katherine discusses her new book and much more. Here is a sampling of topics:
  • The uneasy coalitions in Christian nationalism and MAGA world
  • The lifeblood of Christian nationalism: bad history
  • Religious liberty means the freedom to do what Christian nationalists want to do
  • Religion is a tool of autocratic leaders
  • The threat of the New Right to American governance
  • Power is what unites the religion of the New Right
  • David Barton (Where's Waldo) is still active
  • The rank and file are ultimately victims of the theology of power

TAKE ACTION: Urge your representatives to vote against the reconciliation bill!

The GOP reconciliation bill is advancing in the House!

The GOP bill is designed to advance an explicitly Christian nationalist agenda — from massive tax breaks for religious schooling to attacks on reproductive health care, this bill is a blueprint for using public money to entrench religious extremism. Please act today, and urge your representative to vote against this bill!

This bill includes the Educational Choice for Children Act, a federal voucher scheme that provides a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for donations to private school scholarship funds — primarily religious schools. These schools can discriminate against LGBTQ-plus students, reject children with disabilities and teach dogma with taxpayer backing.

The bill also expands 529 education savings accounts — originally intended to help families save for college — to cover unregulated homeschooling expenses, which can include religious textbooks, instruction and even online classes. It raises the K-12 tax-free withdrawal cap to $20,000 per child and explicitly allows funds to be used for sectarian curricula.

Lastly, this bill aims to defund Planned Parenthood and reproductive health care by cutting off Medicaid and Title X reimbursements to Planned Parenthood, targeting reproductive health access under the guise of budget reform. It's a backdoor abortion ban rooted in religious ideology, not public health.

The reconciliation bill isn't just a budget — it's a policy arm of a theocratic movement. It aligns perfectly with the goals of Project 2025 by dismantling secular government, defunding science-based services and entrenching Christian dominance in public life. Please call your representatives today and urge them to fight against this bill! We have included talking points through the "Take Action" button that you can edit to your liking by clicking on the pencil icon. For best results, please be succinct and polite. For extra impact, you will be directed to a phone script to call your legislator after you email them.

Hakeem Jeffries, Cory Booker host sit-in on Capitol steps over GOP budget plan

"That bill, we believe, presents one of the greatest moral threats to our country that we've seen in terms of what it will do to providing food for the hungry, care for the elderly, services for the disabled, health care, health care for the sick and more," Booker said at the beginning of the sit-in…
