RFK Jr outlines expansive vision for collecting US health data at Maha event

Medical and lifestyle data, from doctor’s visits to exercise, should be connected and shared with the government and independent researchers, where it can be searched by AI – including potential links between vaccines and health outcomes including autism and mortality, suggested Kennedy, the secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and a longtime vaccine skeptic…

Your health care bill is incomprehensible. Congress is stepping in. - POLITICO

Despite the fuzzy math, the fact that the issue has bridged people as far apart as Sens. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has inspired lawmakers to run with it. Sponsors of the bills hope the issue will form the centerpiece of a new law Congress can pass during the lame duck session once the political pressure of the midterms has lifted...

Is the American Dream in Decline? (Open to Debate podcast)

The American Dream – the idea that anyone, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into, can achieve success in the U.S. through hard work and determination – is under scrutiny. Compared to post-World War II where most people could create a comfortable lifestyle, the viability of homeownership and stable employment doesn’t seem attainable to younger Americans and immigrants, according to some economists and policymakers.

Those who see a challenge say there’s a growing wealth gap between the richest and poorest people and that increasing healthcare, education, and housing costs create hardships for many. They also argue that the shift towards a more gig-based economy and the impact of automation and globalization on traditional jobs create uncertainty. Those who remain optimistic about a meritocratic path to success, say that compared to other countries, the U.S. still offers more opportunities for personal and financial growth and that new industries and technologies continually emerge, creating new pathways for advancement. Younger Americans also see different ways of achieving the American Dream than their parents, opening possibilities of a less rigid definition of the term in the future.

Worst states to live in: red or blue?

CNBC’s worst-states-to-live-in list sent Republicans into a meltdown because every state in the bottom ten voted for Trump, but the raw data tells a more complicated story than the outrage machine wants. Red states often do have lower taxes and cheaper living costs, but the tradeoff shows up in lower median incomes, higher uninsured rates, higher poverty, and weaker public investment. Texas and Tennessee can be great for business, cheaper for rent, and still brutal when people need healthcare, schools, or a safety net.

Federal Trade Commission sues leading transgender health group

The group noted in a statement that a federal court had already ruled against the FTC over this effort when it blocked the investigation.

“WPATH is in a strong position to prove that the FTC is acting out of pure retaliation as part of the federal government’s relentless and targeted campaign to undermine gender-affirming care by attacking the First Amendment rights and the independence of professional medical organizations,” the statement said. “We expect the same result when we oppose this latest attack on WPATH and its mission to promote evidence-informed care and guidance for doctors and their patients.”…
