Evangelical education nearly ruined me. Now the Christian right is coming for public schools

Trump's secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, has characterized the growth of US Christian schools as an "educational insurgency" collecting "recruits" to build an underground army "with the opportunity later on of taking offensive operations in an overt way", Hegseth said in a podcast appearance...

"If you gave my students on the west side of San Antonio an $8,000 or $10,000 voucher, there's still no way they can afford a $20,000 a year private school," Talarico says. "But because the voucher program is universal, the wealthy family that is sending their kid to that private school will now get an $8,000 or $10,000 discount on their tuition, at the expense of the working-class kids on the west side."

Talarico adds that the voucher program includes funding for home-school students, up to 90% of whom are Christian and whose curriculum is often poorly regulated. "So we taxpayers will be funding homeschool programs that teach students the earth is flat," he says...

Trump Pentagon nominee endorses extremist Christian doctrine

In the recordings, Hegeth rails against "cultural Marxism", feminism, "critical race theory", and even democracy itself, which he says "our founders blatantly rejected as being completely dangerous"…

Elsewhere in the recordings, Hegseth expresses agreement with the principle of sphere sovereignty, which, in CR doctrine, envisions a subordination of "civil government" to Old Testament law, capital punishment for infringements of that law such as homosexuality, and rigidly patriarchal families and …

Controversies have arisen from his apparent defense of slavery…

Wilson's teachings include that "wives need to be led with a firm hand", that "Christians do not set aside the death penalty for homosexual sin", that "all the nations of man are to be brought into submission to Christ", and that in a Christian nation, non-Christian religions would be banned from the public square.

In a discussion of sexuality, Wilson once wrote: "The sexual act cannot be made into an egalitarian pleasuring party", adding: "A man penetrates, conquers, colonizes, plants. A woman receives, surrenders, accepts."…

Trump’s Despicable Disaster Relief Conditions & Republicans Hard at Work…

The nominations came out today for the 97th Academy Awards, we had some new wildfires pop up last night, Guillermo said he needed to evacuate even though he lives 30 minutes from the fire, Trump is visiting LA to blame us for the fires in person, he is threatening to not help us if he doesn’t get what he wants, he went on Hannity to rant about transgender surgeries for kids, he is planning to declassify the files about JFK, RFK & MLK, the Republican-led Congress is hard at work finding out what happened on January 6th, the Bidens are in California right now, Pete Hegseth will very likely be our next Secretary of Defense, and Fox News has now lost so many people to Trump’s administration that there is a major shortage of on-air talent.

Pete Hegseth’s Crusade to Turn the Military into a Christian Weapon - POLITICO

There are legitimate grievances that Hegseth has embraced, among them the VA's overburdened and underfunded health care system, the revolving door between the Pentagon and defense contractors and the disastrous withdrawal in Afghanistan that permanently damaged Biden's approval rating, and for which the president has not expressed contrition. But Hegseth's belligerent anti-government views, wrapped in religious crusade rhetoric, also threaten to worsen a problem of extremism in the military; according to a 2023 study by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, people with military backgrounds are now "2.41 times more likely to be classified as mass casualty offenders than individuals who did not serve in the armed forces."…

Pete Hegseth had been flagged by fellow service member as possible ‘Insider Threat’ - POLITICO

This week, however, a fellow Guard member who was the unit's security manager and on an anti-terrorism team at the time, shared with The Associated Press an email he sent to the unit's leadership flagging a different tattoo reading "Deus Vult" that's been used by white supremacists, concerned it was an indication of an "Insider Threat."

If Hegseth assumes office, it would mean that someone who has said it's a sham that extremism is a problem in the military would oversee a sprawling department whose leadership reacted with alarm when people in tactical gear stormed up the U.S. Capitol steps on Jan. 6 in military-style stack formation. He's also shown support for members of the military accused of war crimes and criticized the military's justice system…

As the AP reported in an investigation published last month, more than 480 people with a military background were accused of ideologically driven extremist crimes from 2017 through 2023, including the more than 230 arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection, according to data collected and analyzed by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, or START, at the University of Maryland…
