Top Democrats accuse Trump officials over Israeli settlers’ ‘unbridled violence’

The Democrats argue that Trump’s decision on his first day back in office to rescind sanctions imposed on more than 30 settlers and organisations linked to violence has had profound consequences.

“Ending sanctions against those individuals and entities associated with West Bank extremism sent a clear message,” they write. “Settlers can use violent and deadly force with impunity against Palestinians and Americans while seizing land … and no one will face consequences.”…

Democrats demand answers over treatment of wounded US troops

The unit had asked for more medical staff and supplies before the strike and been turned down, according to reporting by the Washington Post and CBS News cited in the letter. There was no doctor on site afterward, no fixed aid station, and only one ambulance, with some of the wounded driving themselves to a hospital in Kuwait City, according to the reports. It took nine days before roughly two dozen soldiers, some still unscreened for brain injuries, were flown to the US military hospital at Landstuhl in Germany.

“Doctors told them that because they hadn’t been recorded as medical evacuees on the flight’s manifest or as seriously injured in [the defense department’s] casualty-processing database, they could only get limited treatment and had to wait in nearby barracks because the hospital was unable to admit them,” the letter states…

Finance Democrats say they'll demand vote on Trump audit immunity - Live Updates - POLITICO

Trump overrode his own agencies to deny four Democratic disaster requests - POLITICO

The emails and documents, which haven’t previously been reported, shed new light on Trump’s decisions to reject an overwhelming number of requests for disaster aid from Democratic-led states, even as he has approved nearly 90 percent of requests from states that are governed by members of his own party. The revelations also offer a fuller picture of Trump’s tenure over the most partisan distribution of FEMA aid since the agency was created in 1979...

K Street girds for Democrats’ oil oversight onslaught - POLITICO

K Street lobbyists are bracing for an onslaught of oversight investigations if Democrats capture one or both chambers of Congress in November. And the party winning back committee gavels — and the subpoena power that comes with them — will make the Trump administration’s dealings with the oil and gas industry a top target.

Democrats are honing their affordability message with the 2028 presidential election looming. Any links they can uncover, real or perceived, between the Trump administration’s policies and rising electricity and gas prices could be fodder for that message, according to lobbyists who are already beginning to prepare clients for their turn under the spotlight…

Senate Dems block defense bill in protest of Iran war - POLITICO

The move is a blow to Republicans who had sought to deliver on Trump’s record-shattering defense budget ambitions — using a bill that is one of the few measures that reliably becomes law each year. But Democrats had long signaled that they won’t support the Pentagon legislation without guardrails on Trump, most notably on the Iran war...

Red scare revived as Trump leads push to attack Democrats as ‘communists’

But while Trump has ramped up his attacks against communism, the self-styled business mogul president has overseen the most significant extension of government control over private industry since the start of the cold war, if not before.

The United States government has a 9.9% stake in Intel Corporation and is the storied chip maker’s largest single shareholder. Trump redirected money from the Chips Act to rescue the firm. The government has warrants allowing it to purchase another 5% of the private company.

It is only one of dozens of nationalized state investments since the start of Trump’s second term...

Trump attacks Democrats as ‘godless communists’ in test of midterms message

The radical left “want to resume the transgender mutilation of children, they want to restart the war on Christians and churches, and as you saw with the communists elected in New York recently … they want to completely destroy the traditional American way of life,” Trump warned.

“Communism is very easy to sell. It destroys everything, but it is very easy. And I’ll be honest – I think I’d be the greatest communist in history.” Mockingly, the president said as a communist he could give free rent, houses and food, but the country would inevitably fail after two or three years. He said: “Everyone will suffer or die. That’s what happens.”

Trump, who has been the subject of three assassination attempts over the past two years, added darkly: “I’m sorry to say but the assassinations of those who oppose them is a very important element of their ideology. Assassinations are a big deal for them. They are animals!”…
