A "religious freedom" argument just defeated Indiana's abortion ban!
In a stunning decision out of Indiana, a judge has blocked the state’s near-total abortion ban saying that it violates the religious freedom of people whose faith teaches them it's okay to have the procedure.

The Value of Religious Freedom: An Interview with Roger Finke (Warren Throckmorton; Telling Jefferson Lies podcast)
Roger Finke is distinguished professor emeritus of sociology and international affairs at Penn State University. Roger is also the founder of the Association of Religion Data Archives, which is an online archive of the best religion data available, a standard research tool for social scientists. He is the author of several books including the subject of today's interview: The Price of Freedom Denied: Religious Persecution and Conflict in the 21st Century (2011) co-authored with Brian Grim.
In this book, Grim and Finke found that as religious freedoms are denied in a society, both by government and by social groups within a society, religious persecution increases. Given the quasi-establishments of evangelical Christianity developing throughout the land, it is important to be aware of the potential consequences of these church-state alliances.

FFRF, others concerned over Oklahoma charter school case (Freethought Today, March 2025)
“The law is clear: Charter schools are public schools and must be secular and open to all students,” the statement reads. “The Oklahoma Supreme Court correctly found that the state’s approval of a religious public charter school was unlawful and unconstitutional. We urge the U.S. Supreme Court to affirm that ruling and safeguard public education, state/church separation, and religious freedom for all. Oklahoma taxpayers, including our plaintiffs, should not be forced to fund a religious public school that plans to discriminate against students and staff and indoctrinate students into one religion. Converting public schools into Sunday schools would be a dangerous sea change for our democracy.”

Trump’s taskforce order is latest in efforts to boost Christian nationalism
Some critics were quick to condemn the initiative as a thinly veiled attempt to privilege evangelical Christianity over other religious minorities.
"If Trump really cared about religious freedom and ending religious persecution, he'd be addressing antisemitism in his inner circle, anti-Muslim bigotry, hate crimes against people of color and other religious minorities," the president and CEO of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, Rachel Laser, said in a statement. "This taskforce is not a response to Christian persecution; it's an attempt to make America into an ultra-conservative Christian Nationalist nation."…
