Democrats seize on two GOP midterm vulnerabilities: Data centers and the ‘big beautiful bill’ - POLITICO

“Trump has made it an issue by saying that he wants data centers reigning everywhere; he’s basically saying he doesn’t care about local control, he doesn’t care about local communities,” Khanna said in an interview Wednesday. “We can be on the side of local cities, rural communities, factory towns, suburbs — places that don’t want Big Tech coming and telling them what to do.”…

Would-be physician assistants deterred by strict caps on US student loans

Beginning 1 July, the Republican-led One Big Beautiful Bill Act (Obbba) will end the Grad Plus federal loan program, cap federal graduate loans at $20,000 per year, and cap loans for professional education at $50,000 per year…

Today, the median cost of physician assistant training is $103,000 for up to 27 months of training, according to Sara Fletcher, executive director of the PA Education Association, which represents institutions that train physician assistants…

States sue to stop student loan limits on some healthcare degrees : NPR

In implementing the changes in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the Trump administration has scaled back the types of graduate degrees that qualify as "professional" and for which students can borrow up to $50,000 a year and $200,000 overall. It is limiting those exempted programs to 11 categories: chiropractic, clinical psychology, dentistry, law, medicine, optometry, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, podiatry, theology and veterinary medicine. Nursing, physical therapy and nurse anesthesia are some of the many healthcare-related programs excluded from that short list of professional degrees…

"This Department of Education has chosen to make it harder for nurses to advance their education and their careers," Jennifer Mensik Kennedy, president of the American Nurses Association, said in a statement. She continued: "Make no mistake, this is not a technicality or a footnote. This rule will be felt in real communities, for example, in rural areas where nurse practitioners, midwives, and nurse anesthesiologists are often the only providers of core care services."…

Those new tax breaks Trump is touting come with a catch - POLITICO

They aren't as generous as Trump's "no tax on tips" and "no tax on overtime" taglines suggest, and have complex rules that will prevent many from claiming them altogether.

"They are much more complicated than what your ordinary middle-class household is used to dealing with," said Kyle Pomerleau, a senior fellow at the conservative-leaning American Enterprise Institute…

Why Your Electric Bill is about to EXPLODE (Find Out podcast on YouTube)

Former Washington Governor Jay Inslee joins us to explain why your electric bills are about to skyrocket this winter — and why it is Donald Trump’s fault.

We discuss the forces behind the price hikes (hint - the Big B*llshit Bill has a lot to do with it), and why Democrats have a massive opportunity to win on these issues if they message them correctly.

Inslee also lays out what Democrats need to do to secure victories in 2026 and 2028, from policy to strategy to mobilizing voters who are feeling squeezed by high prices.

Floodwater engulfed a hospital. Then came the megalaw. - POLITICO

By one estimate, the law's tax cuts could force more than 300 rural hospitals to close. In Erwin, Tennessee, it may mean Unicoi Hospital never reopens, leaving the county without any hospitals or emergency rooms.

"This is going to be a bloodbath if something isn't changed," said Levine, a Republican who once led Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' health care transition team. "The issue isn't just about Unicoi and whether it reopens, it will be about how many hospitals we can even keep open."…

Understanding the impact on the economy of tariffs and BBB tax cuts fit the wealthy

The recent 30 Year Treasury Auction was a disaster for the Trump administration. This is one of the primary funding mechanisms for the federal government and a signal of global faith in the U.S. economy. Demand for U.S. Treasuries was weaker than expected pushing yields uncomfortably high and increasing the cost of servicing the ballooning deficit. Trump’s tariff war is already showing up in inflation data with the worst yet to come. Everything is coming to a head to expose the fallacy of trickle down tax cuts and tariffs as a way to grow the economy and balance the budget. The market has spoken and it’s a bad sign of what’s to come as the administration runs out of runway to get the economy off the ground.
