ThinkProgress: Kasich Would Let States Decide Whether To Punish Women For Abortion

Israel’s Right Wing Is Trying To Squash Progressive Speech

The Israeli government has long maintained that it believes in a two-state solution. But under the right wing government of Benjamin Netanyahu, such an outcome looks less feasible than at any other time in recent history. The situation for Palestinians in the Occupied Territories has long been dire, but now activists and human rights workers say the country’s right wing has Israeli progressives in their crosshairs....

Late and Telling

If you look around over the last week there are a number of highly sophisticated Republican voices arguing that Donald Trump is the sort of demagogue and potential strongman our political system was designed to prevent from gaining power in our country. They are portentous and ominous words and true in many respects. But they would be far more credible if so many Republicans - not necessarily the same writers, but countless formal and informal spokespersons including numerous high-ranking elected officials - hadn't spent the last seven years ranting that the temperamentally cautious and cerebral Barack Obama was a 'dictator' who was trampling the constitution....

The bizarre optimism in Donald Trump’s theory of the economy

Trump appears to blend economic conspiracy theories with magical-thinking accounting: Stocks are a bubble inflated by "easy money"; government regulators have taken control of banks and choked off lending to everyone but the rich; the "real" unemployment rate is closer to 20 percent than 5 percent, and his crowd sizes prove it; cutting taxes and renegotiating the terms of trade will reinvigorate the economy and the middle class and somehow pay off the federal debt within eight years...

The Wage Policy Hillary Clinton Calls ‘Shameful,’ Explained

While the country’s minimum wage requires most workers to be paid at least $7.25 an hour, that’s not true for those who earn tips. Their minimum wage is $2.13, a figure that hasn’t increased in more than two decades. Employers are supposed to make sure that their wages, combined with tips, equal at least the full minimum wage, but many don’t.

Calling this inequity “shameful,” Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton pushed to end the tipped minimum wage altogether at a rally in New York City...

Trump’s Recent Behavior Is Even More Terrifying Than You Think

The violence at Trump’s rallies has boiled over in recent days. Trump himself canceled his rally on Friday in Chicago, citing safety concerns. He continues to rile up his supporters, however, calling protesters “bad dudes” and encouraging his fans to “punch back” to defend themselves. The spectical has generated Trump some negative press, chastising him for inciting violence at his events. But the full scope of Trump’s conduct is more extreme and much darker...

Presidential politics in motion again this week. Bernie Sanders takes three states and lines up strong in Wisconsin. Trump says he would punish women for abortion, and looks like he could stumble in the Badger State. Nothing’s over here. In California, New York — fifteen dollar minimum wage deals. A tough week for Donald Trump, who caused outrage with comments on abortion, and trails Ted Cruz in the polls ahead of the Wisconsin primary on Tuesday. Nixon’s Drug War Was (and Still Is) a Racist Policy Tool to Disrupt and Neutralize Black Communities

Earlier this week, the drug policy field was set ablaze with a Harper’s front-page story titled, “Legalize It All: How to win the war on drugs,” a narration of U.S. drug policies, past and present, and a call for reform to legalize drugs.
