Figures reveal stark reality of US funding cuts as 1,394 family planning clinics shut

"These funding cuts have clear and immediate consequences […] women giving birth without skilled care, people living with HIV unable to access testing and treatment to stay alive, and survivors of violence being turned away from the only clinic in their area," said Alvaro Bermejo, director general of IPPF, the world's largest network for sexual and reproductive health…

Donald Trump Is Attacking Access to IVF and Backtracking on Campaign Promises to Make Fertility Treatment Free for Everyone | Common Dreams

WASHINGTON - Over the weekend, Donald Trump signaled that he does not plan to require health insurers to provide coverage for in vitro fertilization (IVF) services, backtracking on his campaign promises to make IVF free. One in three Americans has used, or personally knows someone who has used, IVF to try and conceive. Americans across party lines say access to fertility planning like IVF should be easier to access.

On the campaign trail, Trump promised the government "will pay for, or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for all costs associated with IVF treatment." He even dubbed himself the "Father of IVF," but now – to no one's surprise – he is backtracking on these promises...

Is it safe to have a child? Americans rethink family planning ahead of Trump’s return

"We have two children and I have desperately wanted a third – but now I am fearful of being able to get adequate care if I get pregnant," wrote another woman who lives in Louisiana. "I can't risk leaving my two children behind if [I] die because I can't get adequate care here. It feels like a dystopian novel, and yet here we are."

These worries are not necessarily new. In 2023, a Pew Research Center surveyfound that 47% of 18- to 49-year-old US adults say they are unlikely to ever have kids – a steep jump from 2018, when 37% said the same. Of the people who are unlikely to have kids, 38% said "concerns about the state of the world" were a major part of their decision-making. Roughly a quarter pointed to fears about the environment....

House appropriations panel clears HHS bill that cuts agency funding

The bill contains numerous policy provisions Democrats decried as poison pills, including eliminating funding for domestic HIV programs, tobacco prevention, teen pregnancy prevention programs and Title X family planning grants. It would also block federal funding for gender-affirming care.

The bill would cut the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) injury prevention program and its opioid overdose prevention and surveillance initiative…

The Trump Administration Is Giving Family Planning Funds to a Network of Anti-Abortion Clinics – Mother Jones

When I walked into the Obria clinic in Whittier, California, one evening in July, a woman in a modest floral-print dress organizing bundles of diapers in a back room greeted me hopefully. She thought I’d come for a class. Instead, I asked if I had come to the right place for birth control. Furrowing her brow, she walked around a couch and through a cozy waiting room full of baby toys to the front desk. “What sort of services were you looking for?” she inquired. I asked if they dispensed the morning-after pill, the emergency contraception often called “Plan B.” She told me curtly, “We don’t provide that or refer for any birth control here.”....

Teen birth rates spiked in Texas after funding for family planning services was reduced by 67% in 2011
