HHS Refuses to Say What an Anti-Vaccine Activist Is Doing at the Agency – Mother Jones

Geier and his late father Mark, a physician who eventually lost his license, spent years presenting themselves as experts on alleged vaccine injuries and pursuing discredited and dangerous “treatments” for autism in children, including Lupron, a drug that inhibits testosterone production and is used to chemically castrate sex offenders…

Dr. Tom Frieden and Brandy Zadrozny on RFK Jr. and the CDC (Al Franken podcast)

Trump picked RFK Jr. to take over the Department of Health and Human Services, and chaos has ensued. So far, RFK Jr. is ignoring the advice of experts and bringing along his cronies to push vaccine skepticism. It could have a devastating impact on the health of Americans for years to come.

We’re joined by Former CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden, who currently heads global health organization Resolve to Save Lives, and MSNBC senior enterprise reporter Brandy Zadrozny, who has covered RFK Jr. for over a decade. Together we discuss the dangers that RFK Jr. poses to Americans’ health and how the “MAHA” movement is NOT making America healthy again.

We also talk through Trump and RFK Jr.’s latest announcement declaring Tylenol a contributing factor in the rise of autism, despite numerous studies saying otherwise.

HHS Plans to Cut the National Suicide Hotline’s Program for LGBTQ Youth – Mother Jones

"Here we are cutting off the nation's lifeline to those in crisis," says Paolo del Vecchio, former director of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration's Office of Recovery. "Due to the discriminatory practices of the Trump administration, they're pulling that life preserver away from thousands and thousands of people."…

Trump administration mulls sharp funding cuts at health agencies - POLITICO

In perhaps the most significant element of the restructuring, the proposal suggests eliminating funding for the Substance Use and Mental Health Services Administration, Health Resources and Services Administration, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and Administration for Community Living, along with a handful of other smaller programs.

Some of the work done at those agencies would continue under the Administration for a Health America, which would get roughly $14 billion in budget authority under the plan. Yet that funding is well below the collective amount allocated to those agencies in past years. It would also mean eliminating dozens of programs, including programs on autism, teen pregnancy prevention, substance abuse initiatives focused on minority populations and firearm injury and mortality prevention research...

Experts fear rise in diseases as layoffs halt health research: ‘Incredibly bizarre gaslighting’

Mass layoffs at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) portend a future with more infectious disease outbreaks, chronic conditions and a widening gulf in health between the most affluent and vulnerable, experts told the Guardian.

Further, they said, the Trump administration's multi-pronged attacks on American science represent a generation-defining experience, a new chapter in the "boom and bust" cycle of health funding, and a masterclass in branding, as Donald Trump and secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F Kennedy Jr dismantle institutions in the name of improving them...

Trump administration eviscerates maternal and child health programs

The cuts to maternal health programs may serve a second purpose for Republicans.

Such programs have come under fire in some conservative states, in part because the experts involved investigate deaths that could have been prevented with abortion services – now illegal or severely restricted in nearly two dozen conservative states…

Meanwhile, experts in HIV/Aids, worker health and safety, healthcare for society's most vulnerable, and experts in maternal and child health have received "reduction in force" notices, a federal term for layoffs, or have been placed on administrative leave with the expectation of being eliminated.

"It certainly appears there was a particular focus on parts of HHS that dealt with women's or reproductive health," said Sean Tipton, chief policy officer at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, about the cuts.

He added: "How in the world you can justify the CDC eliminating the division of maternal mortality is beyond me."…

Donna Shalala criticizes Trump administration's HHS cuts

Former Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Donna Shalala criticized the Trump administration's efforts to cut back the department she once led, calling it an insult that puts Americans' health at risk.

In an op-ed for Stat News published Thursday, Shalala said the administration was "insulting a generation of patriotic federal workers, proposing a silly new bureaucracy, and appointing people who are anti-science and anti-government with no management or leadership experience."…
