The Trump administration, working with Republican states, has come up with its next evil plan to needlessly punish already vulnerable people: capping lifetime Medicaid benefits. Hatch, leading the fight for $1.5 trillion deficit-boosting tax cuts, says we can't afford CHIP

On the Senate floor Thursday, while arguing that the $1.5 trillion tax cuts bill that his committee has shepherded to the floor is good policy, Sen. Orrin Hatch said the nation can't afford the Children's Health Insurance Program unless other spending cuts are made. The invaluable Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio pressed Hatch on the fact that CHIP funding lapsed 31 days ago, and that states are now having to start informing CHIP clients that their coverage is going away, and asked why it wasn't the top priority of Republicans.....

Before Charlottesville, Trump eliminated funding for group countering white supremacists -- ThinkProgress.org

A white supremacist rally in Virginia led to the deaths of three people and dozens of injuries over the weekend—less than two months after the White House halted funding for a program aimed at countering white nationalist extremism, despite warnings from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security. ...

Tom Price’s stunningly dishonest defense of Trumpcare -- ThinkProgress.org

Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price would have you believe the same Trumpcare bill that would strip Medicaid coverage from 15 million Americans by 2026 somehow isn't a cut to Medicaid. Price made that claim in an exceedingly dishonest tweet posted Thursday afternoon. We need to break the beltway mentality. Billions in new spending is not a cut. ...

Health Care, Medicaid Cuts And The Opioid Crisis (Tom Ashbrook, On Point)

Drug overdose deaths in the U.S. last year: nearly 60,000. Far more than in car crashes. At the heart of that soaring drug death number, opioids. The daily opioid death toll around the country is shocking. Millions struggling with addiction. A big part of the answer has to be treatment. That costs money. Maybe $45 billion in the next decade. Maybe $190 billion. The Senate health care plan earmarks $2 billion. This hour On Point: Are we tackling the opioid crisis, or not? -- Tom Ashbrook

Trump’s Department of Homeland Security is defunding an anti-Nazi program

The Department of Homeland Security has inexplicably cut funds to a program intended to wean people off neo-Nazism.

Life After Hate had been scheduled to receive $400,000 during the final days of President Barack Obama’s administration, according to a report by Politico. After President Donald Trump’s administration decided to review a $10 million grant for the “Countering Violent Extremism” program, the Trump team decided to drop funding for Life After Hate....

Trump WH: Birth Control Mandate Is Unnecessary Because Of Planned Parenthood, Which We’ll Also Defund

The Trump administration's argument for letting lots of employers opt out of covering birth control is...not exactly bulletproof.

Yesterday, Vox reported that the Trump administration is considering a broad exemption to Obamacare's mandate on contraceptive coverage, according to a leaked draft of the proposed rule. If passed, the rule would allow virtually any employer, not just a religious one, to remove birth control coverage from its insurance plan if contraception violates the organization's religious beliefs or "moral convictions"—a broad and murky standard. ...
