Donald Trump Is Attacking Access to IVF and Backtracking on Campaign Promises to Make Fertility Treatment Free for Everyone | Common Dreams

WASHINGTON - Over the weekend, Donald Trump signaled that he does not plan to require health insurers to provide coverage for in vitro fertilization (IVF) services, backtracking on his campaign promises to make IVF free. One in three Americans has used, or personally knows someone who has used, IVF to try and conceive. Americans across party lines say access to fertility planning like IVF should be easier to access.

On the campaign trail, Trump promised the government "will pay for, or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for all costs associated with IVF treatment." He even dubbed himself the "Father of IVF," but now – to no one's surprise – he is backtracking on these promises...

Donald Trump's call for free IVF coverage baffles Republicans in Congress

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., burst out laughing when asked about Trump saying he supports mandating IVF coverage.

"Laugh out loud," Warren said. "Donald Trump will say anything that he thinks might be one more vote in favor of Donald Trump. American women are not fooled. If we're going to if the federal government is going to protect access to IVF and pay for it, we've already voted on that, and the Republicans all voted against it — including [Ohio Sen.] J.D. Vance, Donald Trump's running mate."…

Donald Trump says government or insurance would pay for IVF if elected

Wow! Think of all the millions of new fertilized eggs on the one hand, and the rhetoric from so-called pro-lifers that destroying them is murder, and letting them stay frozen makes them the "orphaned unborn". And then there is the state of Alabama calling all fertilized eggs "children".

Will pro lifers stick with Trump or dump him? Will Catholic bishops and priests still tell the faithful they must vote republican? Grab your popcorn! This is going to get exciting. Especially with Donald saying we need ivf because America needs great children, and that is going to sound to a lot of people like promoting eugenics.

Trump Says Abortion 'Not That Big Of An Issue,' GOP Is 'Party Of Fertilization' | HuffPost Latest News

Trump also called the GOP the "party of fertilization," apparently trying to make the case that Republicans have fought to ensure women's access to in vitro fertilization, or IVF. But not only is that false, he lost that point completely in an indecipherable word salad.

"We want to help the women because they were going to end fertilization, which is where, when the IVF, where women go to the clinics and they get help in having a baby, and that's a good thing, not a bad thing. And we're for it a 100%. They tried to say that they weren't for it. They actually weren't for it and aren't for it as much as us, but women see that," he said…

Republican Women Are Divided on Abortion as Bans Spread - The New York Times

Over the past year, abortion as an issue has quickly become tied with health, medicine, safety and security, on top of bodily autonomy, Ms. Undem said. A majority of Republican women also now cite "women's rights" as an "extremely or very important issue" in their vote, up from 31 percent, a phrase Ms. Undem says is closely associated with abortion rights.

"Becoming pregnant has become an even scarier prospect than it already was," she said. "Everyone knows someone who has had a complication in pregnancy, so this issue is far-reaching."…
