El-Sayed comes under fire for 'ogre on a pike' leaked comment - POLITICO

An El-Sayed campaign spokesperson referred POLITICO back to an earlier statement that the candidate was “speaking metaphorically” about his intention to support a primary against Fetterman, a Pennsylvania senator. Fetterman and El-Sayed have clashed over support for Israel.

The senator, who possesses a towering stature, has been mocked for his physical appearance by political rivals, and the “ogre” moniker partly stems from an attack by Kari Lake, a failed Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate and ally of President Donald Trump...

Trump’s White House UFC fights marred by ugly Michelle Obama smear

After exiting the cage to present Trump with a necklace at ringside, Hokit delivered a rambling post-fight interview that veered from praise for the president to religion before concluding with the false conspiracy claim that “Michelle Obama is a man.”…

Trump thrashes European leaders in wide-ranging interview: ‘I think they’re weak’ - POLITICO

Trump matched that blunt, even abrasive, candor on European affairs with a sequence of stark pronouncements on matters closer to home: He said he would make support for immediately slashing interest rates a litmus test in his choice of a new Federal Reserve chair. He said he could extend anti-drug military operations to Mexico and Colombia. And Trump urged conservative Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, both in their 70s, to stay on the bench...

Republican whose child has Down syndrome opposes redistricting after Trump’s ableist slur

Referring to how the president used an ableist slur to insult Tim Walz, the Democratic Minnesota governor, a day earlier, Bohacek's post added, "His choices of words have consequences."

"I will be voting NO on redistricting, perhaps he can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority."…

Veterans react to Hegseth’s ‘insulting’ address to generals and admirals | Pete Hegseth | The Guardian

"A lot of the words that are coming to me aren't fit to print," said Shah, policy director for Common Defense, a veterans advocacy organization. "The people in that room who have served for 20, 30-plus years in uniform do not need Pete Hegseth to tell them about warrior ethos."..

"I thought it was insulting," Pittard said of the address, rejecting Hegseth's assertion that senior officers of color – like himself – had benefitted from a non-existent quota system for promotions…

GOP House candidate slammed ‘dumb and hungry’ Black people

Now, we're confronted with a related story in which Paladino argued publicly that rascally Democrats have somehow kept Black Americans "dumb and hungry," which can't be undone since, in the GOP candidate's mind, Black people can't be taught otherwise...

Rep. Lauren Boebert renews Islamophobic attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar, rebuffs call for public apology - The Washington Post

"I believe in engaging with those we disagree with respectfully, but not when that disagreement is rooted in outright bigotry and hate," Omar said. "To date, the Republican Party leadership has done nothing to condemn and hold their own members accountable for repeated instances of anti-Muslim hate and harassment. This is not about one hateful statement or one politician; it is about a party that has mainstreamed bigotry and hatred."…

Donald Trump ensures first presidential debate is national humiliation

Cry, the beloved country. Donald Trump ensured Tuesday’s first US presidential debate was the worst in American history, a national humiliation. The rest of the world – and future historians – will presumably look at it and weep. More likely than not, according to opinion polls, his opponent Joe Biden will win the November election and bring the republic back from the brink. If Trump is re-elected, however, this dark, horrifying, unwatchable fever dream will surely be the first line of America’s obituary.....

'He was no leader': South Africa denounces Trump's reported comments about Mandela

The report that U.S. President Donald Trump made crude, disparaging remarks about Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s Nobel Peace Prize-winning former leader, has drawn an angry response from South Africa’s ruling party and others. According to a book written by Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal lawyer, Trump said that Mandela, who guided South Africa in its politically fraught transition from a racist apartheid government to a democracy, was a terrible leader. Cohen wrote that after Mandela’s death in 2013, Trump said: “Mandela f---ed the whole country up. Now it’s a s---hole. F--- Mandela. He was no leader.”
