Trump’s acting intelligence chief fires dozens of staff members – report

According to CNN, which was first to report the firings on Monday, political appointees with ties to Gabbard were among those purged. ABC News reported that cuts to the National Terrorism Center were expected to be particularly large.

CBS reported on Tuesday that more than 50 career and political staff members had been dismissed, with six individuals fired and 45 “sent back to their home agencies”…

“My guess is based on his past experience, it’s going to be another hot, steaming pile of Doge shit,” Tillis, who is retiring, continued. “I think he’s an incompetent sycophant and not the right person to lead DNI, and you’re undermining ultimately what the confirmed administrator should be doing.”…

Stevens seeks to restore Social Security Administration staffing

Michigan Congresswoman Haley Stevens (D, MI-11) is introducing new legislation to bring back thousands of jobs at the Social Security Administration.

The Trump Administration cut those roles last year as part of mass federal layoffs.

Stevens said the result has been worse customer service at the agency, and Michiganders not getting value for their tax dollars...

How State Department cuts of Middle East experts affect U.S.'s handling of Iran war | PBS News

The Trump administration has left the assistant secretary position in charge of Near Eastern Affairs vacant, along with key ambassadorships in the Middle East. Four of the five supervisors in the bureau have temporary titles.

The current and former officials, some of whom asked for anonymity to discuss sensitive internal matters during an active conflict, paint a portrait of an understaffed government workforce struggling to execute the president's agenda. Those who remain tell colleagues that their analysis, recommendations and advice go unheeded...

Judge rules Kari Lake unlawfully ran US media agency, voiding mass layoffs

"The judge's ruling that Kari Lake's actions shall have no force or effect is a powerful step toward undoing the damage she has inflicted on this American institution that we love," they said in a statement. "Even as we work through what this ruling means for colleagues harmed by her actions, it brings renewed hope and momentum to the next phase of our fight: restoring VOA's global operations and ensuring we continue to produce journalism, not propaganda."…

Larry Ellison discussed axing CNN hosts with White House in takeover bid talks

Ellison often speaks to connections at the White House but, in at least one of the calls, engaged in a dialogue about possibly axing some of the CNN hosts whom Donald Trump is said to loathe, including Erin Burnett and Brianna Keilar, the people said.

The conversation also touched on floating names to replace Burnett and the possibility of running CBS assets like its flagship 60 minutes program on CNN air – proposals that have animated the White House, the people said...

Fired judges more likely to have a past in immigrant defense : NPR

During the summer months, immigration judges had already had to contend with an outsized enforcement presence in normally empty courtroom hallways. ICE attorneys — who argue on behalf of a government that an immigrant should be deported — started more regularly filing "motions to dismiss" cases. When a judge granted such a motion, migrants would be detained before leaving the building.

Levine said such motions should be granted if there is a change in the individual migrant's case, not a change in immigration policy.

"I was not told it was because of my decision to deny the motion to dismiss that I was fired," Levine said. "But I handed down a decision that contravened what they apparently wanted the judges to do."…

Judge temporarily blocks firings by Trump administration during shutdown

"I am inclined to grant the plaintiff's motion," said Illston during a court hearing on the injunction request. "The evidence suggests that the office of management and budget, OMB, and the office of personnel management, OPM, have taken advantage of the lapse in government spending, in government functioning to assume that all bets are off, that the laws don't apply to them any more, and that they can impose the structures that they like on the government situation that they don't like, and I find, I believe, that the plaintiffs will demonstrate, ultimately, that what's being done here is both illegal and is in excess of authority and is arbitrary and capricious."…

US whistleblowers say they were fired for raising fair housing concerns

Warren, the top Democrat on the Senate committee on banking, housing, and urban affairs, said in a statement following the firings: "Donald Trump doesn't want Americans to know that his administration is engaged in a systemic attack on their rights. "

So the Trump administration is silencing those who are speaking out about how Donald Trump and Scott Turner [the HUD secretary] are turning their backs on the American people, including women experiencing domestic violence, families being denied mortgages because of the color of their skin, and older folks who need extra help getting down the stairs."…

Trump administration moves to curtail appeals by fired workers - The Washington Post

The legal arguments mark the latest effort by President Donald Trump to exert more control over independent agencies and remove protections for federal workers. The administration is now aiming to use the MSPB to assert that the presidential powers in the Constitution outrank the right to due process for workers, although the MSPB has previously said it lacks the statutory authority to consider constitutional claims.

"The Trump administration's effort to assert control over the interpretations of the MSPB is alarming because the MSPB needs some degree of independence from the executive branch to fairly adjudicate the claims brought by federal employees," said Nick Bednar, a law professor at the University of Minnesota Law School...
