Federal judge dismisses Trump admin lawsuit against Washtenaw County "sanctuary" policies

"Apparently flummoxed by the County’s decision to focus its resources on local priorities and public safety, the United States sues to demand Washtenaw County’s cooperation, the use of its jail cells, and its resources," Behm wrote.

AP report: ICE plans to give its officers gloves that can deliver painful electric shocks | PBS News

Message Body The manufacturer warns the device should not be used as punishment, against people merely exhibiting "verbal defiance or belligerence" or on high-risk populations such as children, pregnant women or elderly or disabled people.

Jenn Rolnick Borchetta, deputy project director on policing at the American Civil Liberties Union, said the public should have no confidence that ICE officers will use the devices appropriately. She questioned why the devices would be necessary for civil immigration enforcement and noted those getting shocked might have no advance warning.

"ICE spent the last year showing this country they are too quick to use force. Now they will be able to deploy electric shocks with the slight push of a button that maybe nobody else can see them do," she said. "Introducing gloves that can so easily be used to deliver terrible pain in encounters is a recipe for harm to the public."…

Man killed by ICE agents not intended target of immigration arrest, DHS says

“On July 7, officers were almost at the target’s address when they observed a white van with an individual who resembled the target,” the official said.

The statement does not clarify what happened next. Salgado Araujo died in the hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to accounts from local law enforcement officers. The officers involved were not wearing body cameras, DHS said.

The ICE agents who stopped Salgado Araujo claimed he “weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer” who then fired “his weapon in self-defense”, but did not provide evidence to corroborate that account...
