Democrats call for investigation into ICE officer shooting in Maine after new reports emerge
In response to the AP’s reporting about Brouillette, top US Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer similarly criticized the Trump administration for its mass hiring of thousands of ICE officers to help carry out its mass deportation goals.
Schumer, of New York, accused the Trump administration of rushing 12,000 agents “onto our streets without ensuring they were fit to carry a badge and a gun”. The president and his Republican allies then “gave this rogue agency vast power and no accountability”, Schumer continued on X, arguing that neither Trump nor his party can “disown the deadly consequences” of that approach by ICE...

US strikes on Iran triggered by Israel’s plan to launch attack, Rubio says
"This is Trump's war. This is a war of choice. He has no strategy, he has no endgame," the Senate's Democratic minority leader Chuck Schumer said before going into the briefing.
As he exited, Schumer said that lawmakers present asked "a whole lot of questions" but he found the officials' responses "completely and totally insufficient. In fact, at least to me, that briefing raised many more questions than it answered."…

Democrats refuse to fold over shutdown as Republican outrage builds
"Let's be blunt: nobody's forcing Trump and Vought to do this," Schumer said in a statement. "They don't have to do it; they want to. They're callously choosing to hurt people – the workers who protect our country, inspect our food, respond when disasters strike. This is deliberate chaos."

Trump talks with Democrats fail to yield breakthrough as US shutdown nears
The party has refused to support the GOP funding proposal unless it includes an extension of subsidies for Affordable Care Act (ACA) health plans, which expire at the end of the year. They also want the undoing of cuts to Medicaid – the program providing healthcare to poor and disabled Americans – and public media, which Republicans approved earlier in the year.
Schumer signaled that the Democrats may be willing to compromise. Outside the White House, he said Trump was "the decision-maker, and if he will accept some of the things we ask, which we think the American people are for, on healthcare and on rescissions, he can avoid a shutdown, but there are still large differences between us".

Trump to meet with US congressional leaders in last-ditch effort to avoid shutdown
Schumer, talking to NBC's Meet the Press, said he was "hopeful we can get something real done" – but was uncertain of the mood they would find Trump in when they sat down for the 2pm ET discourse.
"If the president at this meeting is going to rant, and just yell at Democrats, and talk about all his alleged grievances, and say this, that, and the other thing, we won't get anything done," Schumer said.
"We don't want a shutdown. We hope that they sit down and have a serious negotiation with us."
According to CBS News on Sunday, meanwhile, Trump is not hopeful the meeting will lead to an agreement…
Costa said: "Inside the White House, sources are saying president Trump actually welcomes a shutdown in the sense that he believes he can wield executive power to get rid of what he calls waste, fraud and abuse."…
