As crypto and prediction markets expand, the CFTC shrinks : NPR

Since Trump took office, the CFTC has rolled back its enforcement actions against crypto firms Gemini, Celsius, and FTX. But crypto cases weren't the only ones impacted. Crypto spent big to conquer Washington. Banks aren’t giving way. - POLITICO

At issue is whether certain crypto firms should be allowed to offer rewards programs that pay yield to customers who hold stablecoins, a form of cryptocurrency designed to maintain a value of $1. Banks warn that crypto rewards programs could lead their customers to pull billions of dollars out of checking and savings accounts, threatening their business model and starving them of the deposits they use to make loans…

The crypto fight is “the most important thing” on small banks’ Washington agenda, said Alice P. Frazier, the CEO of Potomac Bank in Charles Town, West Virginia, and the chair of the Independent Community Bankers of America. “We are the local economic drivers of growth,” she said.

Crypto companies, she added, “are not going to come back and make loans into the communities the way that we do.”

Trump made more than $2.2bn last year. Experts say this extraordinary haul is only part of the story

“The general populace accepts at this point that he is corrupt, will be making money any way he can, and the government will let him do so,” Libowitz said. “So I think people have just kind of accepted this is what’s going to happen.”…

Trump raked in more than $1bn from crypto businesses in 2025, filing shows

“Neither the President nor his family has ever engaged – or will ever engage – in conflicts of interest,” said Anna Kelly, a White House spokesperson. “President Trump proudly made the United States the crypto capital of the world through executive actions, supporting legislation like the GENIUS Act, and other commonsense policies to drive innovation and economic opportunity for all Americans.”

Kelly added that “all actions by President Trump and his administration are taken in the best interest of the American people – and any so-called ‘reporters’ pushing otherwise are recycling the same, tired, false narrative that Democrats and the legacy media have been pushing for a decade”...
