Doge-ish comes to Florida: a DeSantis loyalist is going after ‘waste’ in Democratic cities

"We're the largest Democratic county in Florida. We have 2 million people and nine county commissioners, all of us Democrat. So is it a coincidence we're the first county they Doge'd, or that he announced the results before they had any data?" he said.

In addition to Broward, Ingoglia has appeared in recent days in several other Democratic-run municipalities, making broad allegations of fraud and excessive spending. But analysts say there is little evidence, other than a few individual examples of comparatively small amounts going towards LGBTQ+ events or diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives… "

Even Ingoglia admits he hasn't found any wasteful spending, but they're going after the things they like to go after, like Pride parades, DEI initiatives, things the DeSantis base is against.

"And going after his enemies allows him to ignore how he has wasted money on things like Alligator Alcatraz, a tax holiday for assault weapons, going after Disney in lawsuits that he keeps losing."…

Opinion | The Waste Musk Created - The New York Times

"On the edge of a lush jungle here in West Africa, the heavy metal doors of a warehouse creak open. Inside are boxes piled high with millions of doses of medicines donated by Merck and other pharmaceutical companies for a United States aid program. Yet the medications are gathering dust, and some are approaching their expiration dates and may have to be destroyed, at immense expense.

It's an excellent example of the waste that President Trump claims was rife in the United States Agency for International Development. ("Absolutely obscene," as he put it in February.) But this waste of drugs exists only because his administration shut down U.S.A.I.D. and canceled plans to distribute these medicines, even though the pills cost America nothing and are ready to use…"

Michael Lewis on Amazing Government Workers (Al Franken podcast)

From the start of Donald Trump's second term, he's been eager to cut the federal workforce. So, Elon Musk headed the newly minted DOGE to begin slashing tens of thousands of jobs.

Our friend, Michael Lewis, author of "The Big Short" and, most recently, "Who is Government?," joins us to share stories of public servants who not only improved this country but have saved countless lives. Those improvements and breakthroughs could only have happened through the power and effectiveness of a strong government.

Lewis warns of the long-term consequences of dismantling agencies like USAID and removing oversight mechanisms. The public might not immediately feel these impacts, but the results will eventually be catastrophic, particularly for vulnerable populations worldwide. Lewis explains that DOGE was never about fraud, waste, and abuse. It's always been about ideology, power, and money.

… All of that unwanted stuff piles up. Some of it will be diverted into a global shadow industry of bulk resellers, some of it will be stripped for valuable parts, and some of it will go directly into an incinerator or a landfill...

Trump's bad bet on hydroxychloroquine leaves U.S. sitting on millions of worthless pills

Four months after Donald Trump first began pushing the idea that his “common sense” said that hydroxychloroquine was a “game changer” in treating COVID-19, the whole waste of time, effort, and lives has come to a sorry end with the FDA pulling the emergency authorization for use of the malaria drug as a coronavirus treatment. Trump repeatedly flogged the drug in daily coronavirus task force meetings (back when Trump wasn’t dismissing the pandemic completely) with the catch phrase “What do you have to lose?” Trump even claimed that he was actually taking the drug himself, in a manner never approved by the FDA, to prevent catching COVID-19.....
