A $2.4 million deal to supply the Bureau of Prisons with surgical gowns was the second multimillion dollar contract for coronavirus supplies that went to somebody who did work for the White House but had little relevant experience.

Survey shows resources for COVID-19 diagnostic testing still limited months later - ABC News
As states begin to loosen COVID-19 restrictions and businesses and schools consider reopening, testing is repeatedly cited as a key component in mitigating risk and returning to a new normal.
Many labs in the United States are still reporting a shortage of the supplies and personal protective equipment needed to test patients for COVID-19, according to an ongoing survey conducted by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry. Without these resources, experts say labs across the country are unable to meet the growing demands and provide critical results for making decisions about isolation and contact tracing.

Kushner COVID-19 team prioritized PPE bids from Trump associates: NYT - Business Insider
When the US coronavirus outbreak began, there were concerns about healthcare workers getting the protective gear they needed.
So the senior White House adviser Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President Donald Trump, formed a group of volunteers to sort through hundreds of leads on personal protective equipment and funnel the most promising ones to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which is in charge of distributing supplies to states and medical workers.
But according to a new report by The New York Times, the volunteers were in fact prioritizing tips from close Trump associates, resulting in multiple botched deals.....

'Little or no transparency': Warren wants data on White House medical supply program - ABC News
Two Senate Democrats are now probing 'Project Airbridge,' the Trump administration program aimed at getting medical supplies to hospitals amid the pandemic, warning the effort is too opaque.
While the White House has touted the Jared Kushner-backed program as an innovative public-private partnership designed to clear logistical logjams and bureaucratic red tape, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., are worried that the administration is not doing enough to facilitate the supply of personal protective equipment to communities battling the coronavirus.

A 'War' For Medical Supplies: States Say FEMA Wins By Poaching Orders : NPR
As the number of coronavirus cases surged in Massachusetts, nurses at a hospital in Milford were desperate. They held up cardboard signs outside the hospital asking for donations of protective gear to wear while treating infected patients.
William Touhey Jr. thought he could help. Touhey is the fire chief and emergency management director in this small town outside of Boston. He did some legwork, and placed an order for 30,000 protective gowns from overseas.
"We were hearing good things that it was coming," Touhey said.
Then he got a phone call from the distributor last week. ....

‘Chaos at the highest levels’: Governors seethe as Trump hinders their ability to buy COVID-19 supplies – Raw Story
President Donald Trump has pushed responsibility for buying medical supplies onto individual governors — but these governors say that the president’s actions are hindering their ability to buy badly needed equipment.
Politico reports that governors still say that they are engaging in destructive bidding wars for supplies — and are even having supplies that they do order scooped up by the federal government without explanation.

Why the hell is the federal government stealing critical medical supplies from hospitals?
Donald Trump has refused to use the federal government to centralize the supply chain for states and hospitals desperate to access medical supplies they need to combat the coronavirus. "We're not a shipping clerk," Trump told governors last month. Instead, Trump told them to fend for themselves, and not much has changed since then. Last week, the guy running point on medical supply logistics for FEMA reinforced Trump’s original position. "I'm not here to disrupt a supply chain," Rear Adm. John Polowczyk told White House reporters, defending the fact that the federal government was pushing medical products out into the private sector to be bid upon rather than sending them directly to the states and hospitals that urgently needed them.
If that wasn’t infuriating enough, we now know that the federal government is actually stealing critical supplies from the very hospitals Trump abandoned. The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that federal government has been "quietly seizing orders, leaving medical providers across the country in the dark about where the material is going and how they can get what they need to deal with the coronavirus pandemic."

Jared Kushner Ripped For Saying 'Our Stockpile' Isn't Meant For States To Use | HuffPost
Jared Kushner, White House adviser and son-in-law to President Donald Trump, declared on Thursday that the stockpiles of much-needed supplies governors were requesting to help with the coronavirus pandemic weren’t actually meant for the states.
