Trump’s free plane is not so free - POLITICO

"This isn't really a gift," said Rep. Joe Courtney (D-Conn.), the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, which oversees executive airlift. "You'd basically have to tear the plane down to the studs and rebuild it to meet all the survivability, security and communications requirements of Air Force One. It's a massive undertaking — and an unfunded one at that."

US taxpayers have shelled out tens of millions of dollars for Trump’s golf trips | Donald Trump | The Guardian

"We start with the clear principle that presidents are entitled to Secret Service protection wherever they go, and have their transportation covered. There's nothing inherently wrong with that when he does any of the things he does," he said.

Christian pastors were told to open private schools since taxpayers would foot the bill

At a training session for future pastors, one Christian speaker urged the audience to have their churches launch their own private schools.

It was easy, he said, because taxpayers were subsidizing his church's school in Florida to the tune of millions of dollars. More importantly, it gave them the chance to win new child converts.

Private Equity-Backed Oil and Gas Drillers Saddle Taxpayers With Costly Cleanup Risk

Further legislation is needed to ensure that fossil fuel companies cannot use bankruptcy to ditch their responsibility to clean up oil and gas wells.

"If these companies declare bankruptcy and abandon these oil and gas wells, the public faces major costs, and buyout firms escape with their profit and zero consequences," said Alan Zibel, an oil and gas researcher with Public Citizen who co-authored the report. "Private equity buyout firms have a history of buying up businesses in declining industries, extracting profits and then filing for bankruptcy once the assets the company owns become worthless. That means federal and state officials must be on high alert as these firms pick up and consolidate oil and gas assets discarded by oil and gas giants."…https://www.commondreams.org/newswire/private-equity-backed-oil-and-gas-drillers-saddle-taxpayers-with-costly-cleanup-risk

The Washington Post has obtained federal spending records showing that — while Trump was visiting his properties — his company was benefiting from payments from the U.S. government. The total: at least $2.5 million in taxpayer funds. Much of that spending was triggered by Trump’s travel, or the travel of his family and aides. These were some of the notable charges:

NJ Supreme Court Says Taxpayer Money Cannot Be Used to Fund Church Renovations – Friendly Atheist

In a unanimous decision just announced by the New Jersey Supreme Court, taxpayer dollars cannot be used to help repair or maintain churches. It’s a major victory for church/state separation advocates and one that will save taxpayers in the state millions of dollars that would otherwise have gone to promoting religious dogma.

Sorry Dick and Jane, corporations get to keep deductions you're losing under the GOP tax heist

When Mitt Romney famously declared in 2011 that "corporations are people," everyone laughed—except for Paul Ryan and his tax henchmen. They took it to heart. But as the Washington Post's Dana Milbank points out, corporations aren’t just any people in the GOP's eyes, they're "Very Important Persons with superhuman privileges" who retain the very right to deductions that many taxpayers are being stripped of in the Republican tax heist....
