DOT drops bike lanes, speed cameras from list of proven road safety measures : NPR

WASHINGTON — The Department of Transportation is doubling down on its campaign against "DEI bike lanes," as Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy called them in a social media post earlier this month…

The FHWA says the changes to its website, which have not been previously reported, are part of a broader review of safety countermeasures to ensure they align with current DOT policies and the administration's priorities. But critics say the Trump administration is undermining safety strategies that have already been proven to work…

Trump Says He Made Memphis Safer. Locals Told Me It Felt Like 1930s Germany or North Korea. – Mother Jones

Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris, a Democrat who opposed the task force, speculated that crime—which had been a problem—was dropping at least in part because people weren't venturing out nearly as much. Hegseth threatens to blacklist Anthropic over “woke AI” concerns : NPR

For months, Amodei has insisted that using AI for domestic mass surveillance and AI-controlled weapons are ethical lines the company will not cross, calling such use "illegitimate" and "prone to abuse." According to a source familiar with the Hegseth meeting, Amodeo stressed those positions again on Tuesday.

Hegseth has said Anthropic needs to allow the U.S. to use its AI in all "lawful" purposes, which could include AI-directed warfare and surveillance…

These bridges are at risk of disaster. Fixing many of them will take years. - POLITICO

But the hurdles are many. Many cash-strapped states simply don't have the money to pour into reinforcing existing bridges for what many view as a once-in-a-blue-moon catastrophe. Bridge owners blame the growing size of cargo ships as the main culprit. Moreover, bolstering bridge safety hasn't appeared high on Congress' to-do list, and even the country's top independent accident investigator isn't pushing for changes there.
