History Minute (087): KKK, Marxism, anti-Semitism and conspiracy theories

The Ku Klux Klan views White supremacy not merely as an ideal, but as a necessity to survival, with White Americans facing extinction on their own soil due to immigration. Big cities that attract foreign workers are especially threatening to American institutions.

The KKK promotes anti-Semitism and conspiracy theories about Jewish immigrants who were (are) considered especially suspicious of spreading Russian pro-Bolshevist propaganda (i.e., Marxism and socialism) by encouraging workers and Blacks to initiate a revolution through labor unions, promoting civil rights, the teaching of evolutionary biology, and the granting of voting rights to the great mass of "incompetent" voters.

Moreover, the KKK claims that White Protestant Americans -- not Jews -- are the actual "chosen people".

People Are Underestimating America’s Groyper Problem - The Atlantic

Last year, David Shor, a data scientist who did polling for Kamala Harris's presidential campaign, surveyed nearly 130,000 voters and found that a quarter of young people had an "unfavorable opinion" of Jews—not Israel, Jews—far more than their elders. Today, some of the top podcasts in the country regularly feature overtly anti-Semitic conspiracy content, whether it's Tucker Carlson rehabilitating Hitler, Candace Owens claiming that Israel had a hand in the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Charlie Kirk, or Joe Rogan hosting a conspiracy theorist who fulminated about how a "giant group of Jewish billionaires is running a sex-trafficking operation targeting American politicians and business people."

And it's not just words...

Did Harvard Have It Coming? (John Donvan; Open to Debate podcast)

The Trump administration has launched an unprecedented assault on Harvard University, freezing more than $2 billion in federal research grants, slashing another $450 million, threatening $100 million in contracts, as well as threatening to revoke its tax-exempt status and its practice of international student enrollment — all aimed at pressuring the university on allegations of campus antisemitism, “anti‑Americanism,” diversity programs, and free-speech issues. Some have praised the administration’s actions, saying what has happened necessitates consequences. Harvard has pushed back with lawsuits, warning that these federal actions could cripple critical scientific research and chill academic freedom.

Prominent Harvard figures, former University President Larry Summers and Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz, engage in a nuanced debate and provocative discussion about whether Harvard failed to contain ideological imbalances, antisemitic incidents, and DEI overreach, and what meritocracy means today at Harvard and other elite universities. Experts who have closely followed this issue and a member of The Harvard Crimson, its undergraduate student newspaper, also joined the discussion.

As we watch the administration’s next moves, we ask: Did Harvard Have It Coming?

Nearly 700 Jewish professors call on Biden not to sign controversial antisemitism legislation | The Hill

"Criticism of the state of Israel, the Israeli government, policies of the Israeli government, or Zionist ideology is not — in and of itself — antisemitic," the letter to Biden and Senate leaders reads.

"We accordingly urge our political leaders to reject any effort to codify into federal law a definition of antisemitism that conflates antisemitism with criticism of the state of Israel," it continues...

Democrats knock Johnson for suggesting George Soros behind campus protests | The Hill

That baseless argument fits a larger narrative long promoted in some conservative circles: that Soros has used his prodigious wealth to manipulate global events for the sole purpose of advancing personal interests.

The irony, the Democrats note, is that the Soros portrayal is, itself, a patent antisemitic trope. By suggesting Soros is fueling the university clashes, the Democrats contend, Johnson and other Republicans are promoting hostility against Jews in the name of fighting it…

Opinion | Antisemitism Cracks Open on the New Right - The New York Times

… the term "America First," popular with the New Right and the older, Lindbergh right, has always been misleading. It actually means some Americans first or "real" Americans first, and "real" Americans do not include the ideological or religious enemies of the New Right...

Antisemites are saying Elon Musk is on their side after his latest tweets about Jews

Musk sparked the criticism with six words he posted Wednesday afternoon on X, the social media app he purchased a year ago. Responding to another user who had accused Jews of hating white people and who had expressed indifference to antisemitism, Musk wrote: "You have said the actual truth."…

White House condemns Fox News for ‘standing up on behalf of hate’ after host attacks CNN anchors’ Jewish heritage | CNN Business

The rebuke came in response to Mark Levin, a right-wing talk personality and Fox News weekend host, who raged against CNN anchors Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper in recent days while ranting on his nationally syndicated radio show.

Levin falsely claimed Blitzer's parents "weren't victims in one way or another, of the Holocaust." In fact, Blitzer's parents were survivors of the Nazi-era concentration camps and all four of his grandparents were murdered during the Holocaust. Levin added that he believed CNN was "filled with a lot of self-hating Jews."…
