Weekly Roundup: Talarico is "Al-Qaeda" + Enes Kanter's WNBA Stunt (Bradley Onishi and Daniel Miller; Straight White American Jesus podcast)

This week on the SWAJ Weekly Roundup, Brad and Dan dig into Lance Wallnau’s baseless claim that Texas gubernatorial candidate James Talarico is secretly linked to Al-Qaeda, unpacking how this fits a broader Christian nationalist strategy of tying Democrats to Islamist and Marxist “infiltrators” — even as polling shows Talarico outperforming Trump’s 2024 numbers in his district.

They also break down Enes Kanter Freedom’s confrontational stunt at a WNBA game, arguing that anti-trans activism functions as a form of misogyny aimed at enforcing patriarchal norms on women’s spaces.

The episode closes with a look at a Florida grand jury finding that the DeSantis administration misappropriated $10 million meant for children’s Medicaid to fight a marijuana legalization ballot measure — a story Brad and Dan frame as part of a broader erosion of political accountability.

History Minute (087): KKK, Marxism, anti-Semitism and conspiracy theories

The Ku Klux Klan views White supremacy not merely as an ideal, but as a necessity to survival, with White Americans facing extinction on their own soil due to immigration. Big cities that attract foreign workers are especially threatening to American institutions.

The KKK promotes anti-Semitism and conspiracy theories about Jewish immigrants who were (are) considered especially suspicious of spreading Russian pro-Bolshevist propaganda (i.e., Marxism and socialism) by encouraging workers and Blacks to initiate a revolution through labor unions, promoting civil rights, the teaching of evolutionary biology, and the granting of voting rights to the great mass of "incompetent" voters.

Moreover, the KKK claims that White Protestant Americans -- not Jews -- are the actual "chosen people".
