Donald Trump's impromptu press conference: The 40 wildest lines - CNNPolitics
Transcripts of closed-door testimony from a series of witnesses in front of the House Intelligence Committee seem to affirm the idea that a quid pro quo was in place between the US and Ukraine. He was ordered by a judge in New York to pay $2 million as restitution for using his Trump Foundation charity as a slush fund for his political interests. Elections in Kentucky and Virginia suggested Democratic momentum in 2018 hasn't worn off. He lost an appeal to keep his taxes from being released. And on and on it goes.

Donald Trump May Have Violated the Johnson Amendment With His Shady Foundation – Friendly Atheist
When New York’s attorney general filed a lawsuit the other day against Donald Trump and his children, accusing them of “persistently illegal conduct” with regards to their family foundation, I didn’t think much of it beyond the headlines. (Trumps behaving badly? Not exactly news.)
The allegations were primarily about how the Trumps used money donated to the charity foundation to fund Trump’s presidential campaign, pay off Trump’s debts, decorate Trump’s golf clubs, and stage lavish events to benefit (who else?) Trump. They didn’t really help other human beings because… well, why start now?...

Paul Manafort is Going to Prison (Opening Arguments podcast OA182)
Today’s Rapid Response Friday spends a lot of time on Yodel Mountain, and in particular evaluating whether Paul Manafort is headed to prison for violating the terms of his pre-trial release as per 18 U.S.C. § 3148(b)(1)(A). You’ll know soon enough, but we’re predicting that Paulie M is headed to prison.
Of course, no trip to Yodel Mountain has just a single stop, so we also discuss the late-breaking New York state lawsuit filed against Donald Trump, his kids, and the Trump Foundation; the status of the media’s efforts to unseal the Mueller documents, and much, much more!
After that lengthy trip to Yodel Mountain, we also update you on the recent court decision upholding the AT&T / Time Warner merger first discussed in Episode 128.
Finally, we end with an all new Thomas Takes The Bar Exam #80 which asks how a court would rule in a convoluted case involving car-washing, sudden deep freezes, and incompetent trial attorneys. Have we piqued your interest yet? Listen and find out! And if you’d like to play along , just retweet our episode on Twitter or share it on Facebook along with your guess and the #TTTBE hashtag. We’ll release the answer on next Tuesday’s episode along with our favorite entry!

How Trump co-opted his kid's cancer charity to line his own pockets
It seemed like Eric Trump actually started out with the best of intentions when founding his Eric Trump Foundation to support research into children's cancer by raising lots of money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the leading pediatric cancer center. He threw huge annual golf events (at the family's golf course, naturally), with all of the money raised going to the hospital because daddy didn't charge anything to use the venue and all the other costs were comped.
While it might have started out with the best of intentions on Eric's part, daddy then got ahold of him and reminded him that just looking good isn't enough if you don't profit directly. That's the picture that emerges from a Forbes investigation by Dan Alexander....

Trump Foundation admits to violating ban on ‘self-dealing,’ new filing to IRS shows
President-elect Donald Trump’s charitable foundation has admitted to the Internal Revenue Service that it violated a legal prohibition against “self-dealing,” which bars nonprofit leaders from using their charity’s money to help themselves, their businesses or their families.
The admission was contained in the Donald J. Trump Foundation’s IRS tax filings for 2015, which were recently posted online at the nonprofit-tracking site GuideStar....

Four months of solid work from David Fahrenthold confirms: Donald Trump is a lying sack of Scrooge
Since he first looked in to see whether or not Trump had followed through on a promise to send millions to veteran’s groups (not), David Fahrenthold of the Washington Post has been diligently working through the records of the Trump Foundation. In those months the story he’s turned up has been one of a fund used to buy whatever Trump wanted, bribe political officials to look the other way on Trump shenanigans, pay off Trump’s legal bills, and act as a slush fund to hide income all the while illegally accepting donations from across the country.
He’s also found that Trump not only isn’t very charitable, he lies about it....
