Foreign Agents' explores the U.S. citizens lobbying for foreign governments (Dave Davies; Fresh Air podcast)

Author Casey Michel says you might be surprised by who is advocating for foreign interests: lobbyists, law firms, and publicists as well as charitable foundations, major universities and think tanks.
"...So he [Manafort] had a firm that did political consulting. It helped get people elected to Congress, to the Senate. And then when he came to those same lawmakers who he had helped put in office, saying, hey, I've got a client here from whatever country or whatever firm that needs some help, the lawmaker is talking to the person he depends upon for reelection. So there's this confluence of interest, or you could see it as a conflict of interest, right?"

Republicans incriminate Trump, decimate his 'Russia hoax' narrative | TheHill

In 2018, Steve Bannon accused Donald Trump’s top campaign officials of “treasonous” and “unpatriotic” conduct, according to author Michael Wolff. Bannon, like a long list of former Trump associates, is now in a world of legal trouble. But thanks to the Republican-led Senate, we know that his characterization of the Trump campaign’s links to Russia was spot-on. In a bombshell report, the GOP-led Senate Select Committee on Intelligence concluded that Trump campaign contacts with Russian spies amounted to “a grave counterintelligence threat.”

The Russia Report returns . . . from the GOP - CSMonitor.com

...But it's pretty hard to read the Senate Intelligence report – approved, remember, by Republican lawmakers – and then agree with Attorney General William Barr that the Mueller probe was based on a "very thin, slender reed."... ... "How exactly could the FBI not investigate such things?" writes Benjamin Wittes, a Brookings Institution senior fellow and editor of Lawfare.

US Senate report goes beyond Mueller to lay bare Trump campaign's Russia links

"... the Senate committee's report "confirms nearly everything" about Trump's ties to Moscow. He said it vindicated claims by the Democrats and others that the campaign had indeed colluded with the Russians – something Trump has vehemently denied."

Takeaways from the Senate intelligence committee’s Russia report - The Washington Post

The Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday released its fifth and final report on Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, and the notably bipartisan report raises plenty of new questions about that effort’s links to the Trump campaign. The report, like its predecessors, does not allege a conspiracy or collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. But it does detail significant new information and raises questions about potentially vital information that has been withheld both by Trump allies and the administration — and renders the full picture of what happened obscured to this day. Below are some of the most important things we learned. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/08/18/senates-big-russia-report-what-we-learned-what-it-means/

Paul Manafort, Trump?s 2016 campaign chair, had contact with Russian intelligence, Senate panel finds - The Washington Post

An exhaustive investigation led by members of President Trump’s own political party portrays his 2016 campaign as posing counterintelligence risks through its myriad contacts with Russia, eager to exploit assistance from the Kremlin and seemingly determined to conceal the full extent of its conduct from a multiyear Senate probe.

Giuliani's 'proof' that Biden was corrupt was paid for by an indicted oligarch who funded Manafort - Daily Kos

There is only one scandal. On broad terms, that scandal is how easily Donald Trump is manipulated by anyone appealing to either his ego or his pocketbook. Nielsen v. Preap and Due Process Due Aliens (Opening Arguments podcast OA263)

Today’s breaking news episode contains your guide to the hotly-debated Supreme Court decision in Nielsen v. Preap, regarding how and whether aliens can be detained without due process. What does it all mean? Listen and find out!

We begin, however, with a brief update on the Congressional Investigations we discussed in Episode 259 with the news that Hope Hicks will cooperate. Listen to our past episode if you don’t realize how huge this is.

Then, we move on to some news regarding a recent order handed down by Judge Kollar-Kotelly in the District Court for the District of Columbia with respect to the trans ban. We dive into the unique procedural issues giving rise to this order and tamp down on your enthusiasm that this may put the trans ban in jeopardy.

Then, it’s time for our main segment breaking down Nielsen v. Preap. We tell you exactly what this decision means along with the reasons why the Court reached the result it did.

But that’s not all! After that, we have our weekly trip to Yodel Mountain with two items: (1) an Andrew Was Right about the source of the National Enquirer‘s acquisition of compromising material about Jeff Bezos; and (2) a follow-up on the New York indictment of Paul Manafort.

And if all that isn’t enough for you, well, we end, as always, with a brand new Thomas Takes the Bar Exam Question #119 involving long-term contracts for the sale of wheat. As always, remember to follow our Twitter feed (@Openargs) and like our Facebook Page so that you too can play along with #TTTBE!
