Gabbard says 'new' intel shows Iran nuclear sites destroyed

"Interesting how the narrative changes," Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, wrote on X, referencing reports about Trump calling the initial assessment "inconclusive."

"One way or the other, the extent of the damage to Iran's nuclear program will come out," he added later.

"I trust the analyses of the men and women of our brilliant intelligence community over Donald Trump spiking the football."…

What Paul Manafort did, according to Mueller and a bipartisan Senate report - The Washington Post

Former president Donald Trump is preparing to bring back into his campaign fold a man convicted of multiple crimes and whom a bipartisan Senate report labeled a "grave counterintelligence threat" because of his ties to a Russian spy...

FinCEN Files Show Criminals Moved Billions As Banks Watched

...Sen. Ron Wyden, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which requested some of these SARs, said the FinCEN Files investigation "reinforces the fact that we now have two systems of law enforcement and justice in the country." Drug cartels move millions through US banks; poor people go to jail for possession. "If you're wealthy and well-connected, you can figure out how to do an enormous amount of harm to society at large and ensure that it accrues to enormous financial benefit for all of you."...

A New Report About Trump, Russia And 2016 Raises Concerns About November (Diane Rehm, On My Mind)

Even as this week’s Democratic convention officially kicked off the 2020 race for president, we continued to learn the full story of just what happened in 2016.

On Tuesday, the Senate Intelligence Committee released its final report on Russian involvement in the presidential election four years ago. It outlined new details about links and interactions between Russian government operatives and members of the 2016 Trump campaign. It also raised concerns about Russia’s efforts to influence the election this year.

Benjamin Wittes is editor-in-chief of Lawfare and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. He joined Diane to discuss the report.

Republicans incriminate Trump, decimate his 'Russia hoax' narrative | TheHill

In 2018, Steve Bannon accused Donald Trump’s top campaign officials of “treasonous” and “unpatriotic” conduct, according to author Michael Wolff. Bannon, like a long list of former Trump associates, is now in a world of legal trouble. But thanks to the Republican-led Senate, we know that his characterization of the Trump campaign’s links to Russia was spot-on. In a bombshell report, the GOP-led Senate Select Committee on Intelligence concluded that Trump campaign contacts with Russian spies amounted to “a grave counterintelligence threat.”

The Russia Report returns . . . from the GOP - CSMonitor.com

...But it's pretty hard to read the Senate Intelligence report – approved, remember, by Republican lawmakers – and then agree with Attorney General William Barr that the Mueller probe was based on a "very thin, slender reed."... ... "How exactly could the FBI not investigate such things?" writes Benjamin Wittes, a Brookings Institution senior fellow and editor of Lawfare.

Trump Phone Calls Add to Lingering Questions About Russian Interference - The New York Times

A Senate committee went further than the Mueller report on key points about Russia's election sabotage operations and the Trump campaign.

Senate report details Trump campaign contacts with Russia

The Senate Intelligence Committee released Tuesday the most comprehensive and meticulous examination to date explaining how Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election and the Trump campaign welcomed the foreign adversary's help, revealing new information about contacts between Russian officials and associates of President Donald Trump during and after the campaign. In several key ways, the committee's counterintelligence investigation goes beyond the findings of former special counsel Robert Mueller released last year, as the Republican-led Senate panel was not limited by questions of criminality that drove the special counsel probe. The report is all the more remarkable because it was led by then-Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr, a North Carolina Republican, and Democratic Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia. The report provides an exhaustive, bipartisan confirmation of the contacts between Russians and Trump associates in 2016 -- and it was the only congressional committee that managed to avoid the partisan infighting that plagued the other congressional investigations into Russian election meddling.

Trump dismisses new report on 2016 election interference as his allies continue to pursue theories it debunks - The Washington Post

Some of the characters and many of the themes that populate the roughly 1,000-page Senate report released Tuesday on Russia’s interference in the 2016 election remain part of President Trump’s political orbit or his reelection effort four years later. The investigation from the Senate Intelligence Committee portrays Trump’s 2016 campaign as eager to accept help from a foreign power and the then-candidate as a direct participant. Its arrival also underscores how little the evidence of Russia’s desire to wreak havoc on U.S. elections laid out now in numerous reports and investigations has chastened the president and his allies.

Senate report details ‘grave counterintelligence threat’ posed by Trump campaign’s 2016 contact with Russia - The Washington Post

...In one of its most startling passages, the report concludes that one of Trump's core claims of innocence cannot be credited. In written testimony to the team of federal prosecutors led by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, Trump insisted that he could not recall ever discussing the WikiLeaks dumps with political adviser Roger Stone or any other associate.
"Despite Trump's recollection," the Senate report said, "the committee assesses that Trump did, in fact, speak with Stone about WikiLeaks and with members of his campaign about Stone's access to WikiLeaks on multiple occasions."...

Five takeaways from final Senate Intel Russia report | TheHill

The Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday released its long-awaited Russia interference report detailing significant contacts between the Trump campaign and Moscow during the 2016 election. The fifth and final volume, just shy of 1,000 pages, lays out the counterintelligence threats and vulnerabilities that were exposed through Russian contacts and a willingness by some members of the Trump campaign to accept foreign assistance.

US Senate report goes beyond Mueller to lay bare Trump campaign's Russia links

"... the Senate committee's report "confirms nearly everything" about Trump's ties to Moscow. He said it vindicated claims by the Democrats and others that the campaign had indeed colluded with the Russians – something Trump has vehemently denied."

Takeaways from the Senate intelligence committee’s Russia report - The Washington Post

The Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday released its fifth and final report on Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, and the notably bipartisan report raises plenty of new questions about that effort’s links to the Trump campaign. The report, like its predecessors, does not allege a conspiracy or collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. But it does detail significant new information and raises questions about potentially vital information that has been withheld both by Trump allies and the administration — and renders the full picture of what happened obscured to this day. Below are some of the most important things we learned. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/08/18/senates-big-russia-report-what-we-learned-what-it-means/
