House speaker calls early recess before midterms amid AI regulation frenzy

“I think it shows the cowardice of the Republican party. They are canceling votes to do business for the American people because they are afraid that that impeachment resolution of Pete Hegseth would pass on a bipartisan basis,” the Democratic representative Pramila Jayapal told MediasTouch…

Al and Norm Ornstein on The Blueprint for Trump's Cruelty (Al Franken podcast on YouTube)

What's actually driving the Trump administration? Our good friend and emeritus scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, Norm Ornstein, joins Al to follow the blueprint laid out by Project 2025.

The chief architect of Project 2025, Russell Vought, now runs the Office of Management and Budget, the perfect position to carry out The Project’s agenda. Norm and Al cover the human cost of gutting USAID, DOGE’s chaotic assault on the federal workforce, an immigration crackdown that's begun alienating the Hispanic voters who swung to Trump in 2024, and a cabinet culture so consumed with flattery that Ornstein calls it the "Lickspittle Olympics."

Plus, Trump promised to keep us out of wars, but with the ongoing conflict with Iran, the Venezuela invasion, preparations around Cuba, and a growing rift with NATO, it seems like he might not have been fully honest with the American people.

Norm discusses how this administration's corruption dwarfs every previous White House scandal combined. And what should Democrats actually do if they retake Congress? Is impeachment smart politics or a distraction? And what does a credible "Project 2029" look like?

Anti-Trump group can keep flying ‘86-47’ flag near National Mall, judge rules - POLITICO

“The Court does not doubt that political violence is on the rise and that it poses a grave threat not just to the targets of the threats but to the country as a whole. But the enormity of that problem does not change the meaning of Plaintiff’s speech, which by any reasonable measure merely advocated for the President’s impeachment and removal from office — that is, ‘to throw [him] out,’” Moss wrote...

‘Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard’: Republicans amp up their resistance to Trump’s Greenland push - POLITICO

"If there was any sort of action that looked like the goal was actually landing in Greenland and doing an illegal taking … there'd be sufficient numbers here to pass a war powers resolution and withstand a veto," Tillis said.

Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) went further, predicting that it would lead to impeachment and calling Trump's Greenland obsession "the dumbest thing I've ever heard."…

Trump tells GOP it’s time to ‘own’ health care while urging ‘flexibility’ on abortion restrictions - POLITICO

At the end of a winding, nearly 90-minute speech to the House GOP conference, which Trump touted as a "roadmap" to winning the midterm elections, he demanded Republicans show flexibility on their long-standing stance against the use of federal dollars to pay for abortion, a call that prompted swift blowback. He also asked them to enact an insurance plan that sends dollars directly to consumers instead of insurance companies and "own" in-vitro fertilization policy.

And he set the stakes: winning the midterms and avoiding a third impeachment...
