Chelsea Manning shared secrets with WikiLeaks. Now she's telling her own story (Dave Davies; Fresh Air podcast)
So we would just be spinning our wheels more and more, like if you're stuck in a ditch and you run the engine and you try to go faster, but you end up digging deeper. That was what was happening. And I kept seeing this again and again. And it was very clear that the approaches of counterinsurgency warfare were extremely self-destructive.

Mike Pompeo & CIA Sued for Spying on Americans Who Visited Julian Assange in Embassy in U.K. - YouTube
Lawyers and journalists sued the CIA and former CIA Director Mike Pompeo Monday for spying on them while they met Julian Assange when he was living in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he had political asylum. The lawsuit is being filed as Britain prepares to extradite the WikiLeaks founder to the United States, where he faces up to 175 years in prison for violating the Espionage Act by publishing classified documents exposing U.S. war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. We speak with the lead attorney in the case, Richard Roth, who details how a private security company stationed at the London Embassy unknowingly sent images from Assange's visitors' cellphones and laptops as well as streamed video from inside meetings to American intelligence. He says the offenses breach a range of client privileges and could sway a U.S. judge to dismiss the case if Assange is successfully extradited.

Senate report details ‘grave counterintelligence threat’ posed by Trump campaign’s 2016 contact with Russia - The Washington Post
...In one of its most startling passages, the report concludes that one of Trump's core claims of innocence cannot be credited. In written testimony to the team of federal prosecutors led by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, Trump insisted that he could not recall ever discussing the WikiLeaks dumps with political adviser Roger Stone or any other associate.
"Despite Trump's recollection," the Senate report said, "the committee assesses that Trump did, in fact, speak with Stone about WikiLeaks and with members of his campaign about Stone's access to WikiLeaks on multiple occasions."...

Gates' testimony indicates Trump lied when he claimed he never talked with Stone about WikiLeaks
Prosecutors in Trump ally Roger Stone's federal trial closed their presentation of evidence today with testimony from Trump campaign staffer and Paul Manafort co-conspirator Rick Gates. Gates testified that then-campaign head Paul Manafort asked him to maintain contact with Roger Stone on potential WikiLeaks disclosures (that is, on WikiLeaks' release of Democratic documents obtained by Russian intelligence agents in their campaign to damage candidate Hillary Clinton), with Manafort making it clear to Gates that he would be updating Trump with what Gates learned....

Julian Assange Arrested (Opening Arguments podcast OA269)
Today's episode breaks down the recent arrest of Julian Assange in England and what it means for Chelsea Manning (and Donald Trump!)
We begin, however, with two separate sports-related stories: the improbable success of Marcus Rademacher in the Opening Arguments March Madness pool, and the (far sadder) saga of the Trump Administration's indefensible decision to overrule the MLB's deal with Cuba that would have brought an end to the dangerous human trafficking of ballplayers.
After that, it's time for our deep dive into the sealed Julian Assange indictment and his arrest in England. We also discuss at great length exactly why Chelsea Manning is apparently being held in solitary confinement in prison -- even though her crime was commuted by President Obama -- and whether this indictment is relevant to the Mueller investigation. Oh, and Thomas gives you something to look out for!
And if all that isn't enough for you, well, we end, as always, with a brand new Thomas Takes the Bar Exam Question #122 involving hearsay and a search for public records. As always, remember to follow our Twitter feed (@Openargs) and like our Facebook Page so that you too can play along with #TTTBE!

Pence: Trump saying ‘I love WikiLeaks’ doesn’t mean he endorses what it did - The Washington Post
Vice President Pence asserted in an interview broadcast Friday that President Trump’s enthusiastic reaction to WikiLeaks’s releases of damaging material on Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential race did not amount to an endorsement of the organization.
“I think the president always, as you and the media do, always welcomes information,” Pence said in an interview with CNN. “But that was in no way an endorsement of an organization that we now understand was involved in disseminating classified information by the United States of America.”....
