‘She is evil’: Amy Coney Barrett under attack by right wing after USAid ruling | US supreme court | The Guardian

"She is evil, chosen solely because she checked identity politics boxes. Another DEI hire. It always ends badly," Mike Cernovich, a prominent rightwing influencer and conspiracy theorist, wrote on X, referencing diversity, equity and inclusion policies which Republicans have demonized.

Fox News host Mark Levin claimed in an online post that Barrett had "deceived people into thinking she was a reliable constitutionalist". He added: "The power has gone to her head. It happens with frightening regularity the last half century."…

Tom Barrett accused of misleading voters with ad in Black-owned paper - The Washington Post

In a complaint filed Sunday with the state attorney general, the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus accused Barrett's campaign of misleading Black voters to suppress turnout — something the group of Black state lawmakers said could violate a Michigan law that prohibits intentionally spreading misinformation about the election process to deter an individual from voting.

"At best, Tom Barrett and his Campaign have committed a shocking oversight which will undoubtedly lead to confusion by Black voters in Lansing," states the complaint, which calls on the attorney general as well as a local county prosecutor to launch a probe. "And, at worst, this ad could be part of an intentional strategy to 'deter' Black voters by deceiving them into showing up to vote on the day after the 2024 election."…

Kagan says Barrett got it backwards | CNN Politics

"The broadly worded 'waive or modify' delegation IS the HEROES Act, not some tucked away ancillary provision," Kagan wrote, referring to the relevant student loan program statute. "And as JUSTICE BARRETT agrees, 'this is not a case where the agency is operating entirely outside its usual domain.' So I could practically rest my case on JUSTICE BARRETT's reasoning."

Supreme Court elections case: Moore v. Harper would give Trump’s Jan. 6 coup a bogus constitutional pass.

That's the argument that the Supreme Court considered, and rejected, in Bush v. Gore. (A young Bush lawyer named Brett Kavanaugh was especially enamored of it.) It's the argument that Trump deployed when he tried to nullify millions of votes in 2020. And it's the argument that Ginni Thomas, wife of Justice Clarence Thomas, relied upon when lobbying state legislators to appoint "alternate electors" who would support Trump. And to be fair, it has some superficial appeal: Its proponents like to say that "legislature means legislature," and that's the end of it.
But it's really not, for at least four reasons. First, when the Constitution was written, in 1787, legislature meant more than the specific body of elected representatives who pass laws. The word encompasses the entire power that makes laws—which is why, for instance, a governor can veto a congressional map...

‘Nothing short of ridiculous’: Trump ally Tom Barrack rejects foreign agent claims as trial opens - POLITICO

Assistant U.S. Attorney Hiral Mehta argued that Barrack and his aide, Matthew Grimes, used Barrack's "unique access" to Trump to act as the "eyes and ears and voice" of the wealthy Gulf nation during Trump's 2016 run for president and through the beginning of his administration. They did so, Mehta said, in exchange for tens of millions of dollars' worth of investments from Emirati sovereign wealth funds...

Revealed: leaked video shows Amy Coney Barrett’s secretive faith group drove women to tears

…Barrett's question also appears to echo the People of Praise culture in which she was raised and has chosen to remain a part of, which emphasizes the importance of childbirth, pregnancy, and the abandonment of autonomy and privacy it supposedly entails, as a core part of what it means to be a woman…

Amy Coney Barrett Is In Over Her Head

…When the decisions come down, Barrett is frequently missing in action. As the junior justice, she does not get assigned blockbuster opinions, but she is free to write concurrences and dissents. Gorsuch and Kavanaugh wasted no time making their mark on the court through concurring opinions explaining their votes. These separate writings aim to give a reasoned defense of the justices' stance and to distinguish their intellectual projects from the conservative herd.
Barrett has chosen a different tack: silence. This term, she has joined a number of important 6–3 and 5–4 decisions that shifted the law rightward without a sentence of explanation. The justice wrote nothing in Dobbs to tell us why she overruled Roe. She wrote nothing in Oklahoma v. Castro-Huerta, a brutal 5–4 assault on tribal sovereignty. Nothing in West Virginia v. EPA hobbling climate regulations; or Kennedy v. Bremerton allowing Christian prayer in public schools; or Carson v. Makin forcing public funding of religious education; or Vega v. Tekohundermining Miranda warnings; or the brutal habeas decisions that let states execute innocent people…

Amy Coney Barrett raises adoption in abortion case hearing that poses challenge to Roe v. Wade | GMA

"'I'm unfortunately not surprised that adoption was brought up so much, because I think people feel that pregnancy is this non-issue medical condition," said Dr. Leilah Zahedi, a Tennessee-based maternal fetal medicine specialist and fellow with Physicians for Reproductive Health. "It's very infuriating to be honest, because it shows their ignorance in the fact that pregnancy is not an uncomplicated condition for the majority of the United States."
"Pregnancy is probably one of the most dangerous things a woman does in her life, bar none," she said...

Why Amy Coney Barrett’s questions about adoption worry abortion rights activists - The Lily

… Andréa Becker, a medical sociologist who spoke out against Barrett's line of questioning, said the justice's suggestion that the burdens of pregnancy and parenthood can be allayed by adoption "could not be further from the truth."…

Amy Coney Barrett sullies the Supreme Court | TheHill

…Barrett's appointment and her ill-timed assertion of the court's nonpartisanship has damaged one more institution of government. At the start of the court's new term, public approval of the court fell to 49 percent, down from 66 percent last year. Paying attention to public opinion is important…https://thehill.com/opinion/judiciary/574090-amy-coney-barrett-sullies-the-supreme-court

Amy Coney Barrett says the supreme court aren’t ‘partisan hacks’. Oh really?

Never mind the court's wildly rightwing bent and secretive 'shadow docket' – or Barrett's refusal to recuse herself from a case involving a fossil fuel giant that employed her father…
