Supreme court allows abortion pill mifepristone to continue to be available by mail
Earlier on Thursday, the entire Senate Democratic caucus reintroduced a resolution “affirming that the abortion medication mifepristone is safe and effective”, and underscoring that law and policy related to the medication must be equitable, transparent, and based on the best available peer-reviewed evidence-based science. While not binding, the formal expression of all 45 Democratic senators’ opinion is “notable”.
“Healthcare providers have safely prescribed mifepristone for decades – limiting access to this medication would be another blow to our hard-earned reproductive freedoms. Extremists should never dictate a woman’s right to reproductive care,” wrote Jeanne Shaheen, a New Hampshire senator, on Xabout the resolution...

Texas and Florida sue FDA in latest effort to restrict abortion pill access
"These lawsuits have nothing to do with the safety of this medication and everything to do with making it harder for people to get an abortion," said Julia Kaye, senior staff attorney with the ACLU's Reproductive Freedom Project. "Politicians in Texas and Florida are asking for a nationwide ban on a safe and effective medication that millions of Americans have used since the FDA first approved it 25 years ago."…

Anti-abortion groups furious as FDA approves generic abortion pill
To bolster their attack on mifepristone, anti-abortion activists recently seized on an April paper by the Ethics and Public Policy Center, a rightwing thinktank, claiming almost 11% of women experience sepsis or other serious complications within 45 days of taking mifepristone. In his letter announcing the review of mifepristone, Kennedy cited the center's paper.
But that paper was not peer-reviewed nor published in a medical journal, and experts have uncovered multiple flaws in it. For example, it counts ectopic pregnancies – wherein an embryo implants somewhere outside of the uterine lining – as a serious complication. Mifepristone does not cause or worsen ectopic pregnancies.
Meanwhile, more than 100 studies, conducted across more than three decades and dozens of countries, have concluded that mifepristone is a safe and effective tool to end a pregnancy...

Conservatives are trumpeting a new abortion-pill study. One problem: it’s bogus
"The study is not peer-reviewed and has not been published in a medical journal, because its authors could not meet the standards that such publication requires: their work is not up to snuff. Dr Stella Dantas, the president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, called the paper "seriously flawed" and said that it "manipulates data to drive a myth that medication abortion isn't safe".
The truth is that abortion pills have a lower rate of serious complications than Tylenol…"
