CDC seeks to block ‘never use alone’ messaging used by overdose prevention groups

Beletsky said that people concerned with ending overdose fatalities have had to learn what works and what doesn't "the very hard way". He's worried that looming changes could roll the clock back "to a time when things were spiraling year after year" and "that we will go back to seeing the trends reverse again in the wrong direction".…

Opinion | Mayor Brandon Scott: Baltimore’s violence-prevention pilot succeeded - The Washington Post

"In January 2022, my administration launched Baltimore's Group Violence Reduction Strategy (GVRS) pilot in the Western Police District. This strategy, known nationally as focused deterrence, facilitates direct, sustained engagement with individuals who are the most likely to be either the victims or perpetrators of violence. Since the start of this pilot, we have seen homicides and nonfatal shootings in the Western District — historically the most violent of Baltimore's police districts — drop by a combined 34 percent as of Dec. 31….

…Some countries "devalued and debunked" the science, denying the severity of the disease. "This has had deadly consequences," said Clark. Tucker Carlson wrongly claims coronavirus prevention measures aren't backed by science | TheHill

In his on-again, off-again position on wearing face masks to protect against coronavirus infection, Tucker Carlson is off again. On his nightly political talk show on Fox News channel, Carlson discussed President Trump’s demands that schools reopen this fall. “Many schools that do plan to reopen will do so under a series of restrictions that have no basis of any kind in science. It’s kind of a bizarre health theater. Students will be kept six feet apart, everyone will have to wear a mask, class sizes will be limited,” he said.....

Here is the horrible reason why nursing homes are being unnecessarily overrun by the Trump pandemic – Raw Story

Former Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson, a Democrat but the CEO of a nursing home industry group, wrote Trump after the 2016 election seeking a “collaborative approach” to regulation, much like the one the Federal Aviation Administration has had with the aircraft industry. Team Trump acquiesced, rolling back fines and proposing to weaken rules for infection prevention employees. That collaborative approach has failed, much as it did with the FAA , the agency that enabled failures in the design of the Boeing 737 Max.
