How abortion bans will likely lead to more deadly infections | PBS NewsHour
…During a miscarriage, which experts say occur in as many as one out of three pregnancies, a patient may begin spontaneously bleeding, cramping or passing fluid or fetal tissues. Hormones typically help the body flush these products from the uterus (which must remain uncontaminated for the pregnant person's safety) and out the vagina. But sometimes that doesn't happen perfectly. After hormone levels subside, some tissue may stay behind. Remnants of that lost pregnancy could cause infection in the uterus. Signs that something has gone wrong include unpleasant odors in vaginal discharge, worsening fever and abdominal cramping. If detected early, these infections can be treated with antibiotics, and the patient's chances of recovery are high. If untreated, the patient may require a blood transfusion, a hysterectomy or other surgeries. Any delays mount risks against that patient's life…

Here is the horrible reason why nursing homes are being unnecessarily overrun by the Trump pandemic – Raw Story
Former Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson, a Democrat but the CEO of a nursing home industry group, wrote Trump after the 2016 election seeking a “collaborative approach” to regulation, much like the one the Federal Aviation Administration has had with the aircraft industry.
Team Trump acquiesced, rolling back fines and proposing to weaken rules for infection prevention employees. That collaborative approach has failed, much as it did with the FAA , the agency that enabled failures in the design of the Boeing 737 Max.

Alzheimer’s Disease May Be Caused By Brain Infections
Silent infections earlier in life could be at the root of Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s researchers have long presumed that amyloid beta proteins are the brain’s garbage, accumulating over time but serving no obvious purpose. These plaques trigger the formation of tau proteins (or “tangles”), which proceed to destroy nerve cells.
Robert D. Moir of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital thought something was missing in this picture—and looked to proteins that live on our innate immune system for answers. Moir and his colleague Rudolph E. Tanzi noticed that amyloid proteins look like these immune system proteins, which trap and then purge harmful viruses, yeast, fungi, and bacteria. The two scientists wanted to see if amyloid plaques serve a similar function in the brain....
