Neo-Nazi group ‘actively seeking to grow in US’ with planned paramilitary training event | Far right (US) | The Guardian
The Trump administration's security posture on the far right is to downplay its significance. Yet experts unanimously agree: it is the top domestic terrorism threat facing the country. Instead, Patel, the FBI's director, has gone about removing agents from pursuing the far right, while one of Trump's first actions in his second term was to provide unconditional pardons, en masse, to all of the January 6 insurrectionists...

New Mexico militia eager for 'civil war' receives warm embrace from state's Republican officials
The reactionary presence of right-wing paramilitary groups has always been a problem for an open democratic society, and has become acutely so during the period of social upheaval we’re currently experiencing—a viral pandemic and mass protests involving police brutality. The threatening behavior and rhetoric of these groups is a proto-fascistic attempt to shut down free speech and democratic institutions, and any official support for them from people in positions of authority represents an embrace of this fascism.
Yet in New Mexico, a flock of state Republicans have made official their adoption of a vigilante militia organization—one calling itself the New Mexico Civil Guard, seemingly to claim a false mantle of public support, but accountable to exactly no one.....

Trump’s Occupation of American Cities Has Begun
The month after Donald Trump’s inauguration, the Yale historian Timothy Snyder published the best-selling book “On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons From the Twentieth Century.” It was part of a small flood of titles meant to help Americans find their bearings as the new president laid siege to liberal democracy.
One of Snyder’s lessons was, “Be wary of paramilitaries.”

Report: Russian intelligence services may be sponsoring neo-Nazi paramilitaries in the U.S.
We’ve known for some time that Russia’s authoritarian regime has played a key role in spreading far-right white-nationalist ideology around the globe. We’ve also known for some time that Russian intelligence interfered in the 2016 U.S. election, mainly through disinformation campaigns.
The inevitable next step is apparently here: American intelligence officials, according to The New York Times, now believe that neo-Nazi paramilitary operations such as The Base and its Northwest-based training operations, used to plan and train for terrorist acts in the United States, including possibly during the coming election season, are being underwritten and overseen by Russian intelligence services. ....

“Bring the War Home”: The Long History of White Power and Paramilitary Violence in the United States
Nearly one year since hundreds of torch-bearing white supremacists held a deadly march and rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has reiterated Trump’s defense of the violent white supremacists, saying, “I think what’s important about that conversation is, it’s not that one side is right and one side is wrong. Anybody that is advocating violence, we need to work to mitigate.” Organizers from Unite the Right, the group that held the rally in Charlottesville, have announced they will hold a repeat rally on the anniversary of last year’s deadly event, with plans to descend on Washington, D.C.. For more on white supremacist violence in the United States, we speak with Kathleen Belew, assistant professor of history at the University of Chicago. Her new book is titled “Bring the War Home: The White Power Movement and Paramilitary America.”...
