Lawsuits seek to prevent federal officers at polls : NPR

Denver's López said he tells voters if federal officers show up at the polls, he hopes they will be arrested.

"We have a plan put together just in case if that happens and it's not going to be a good day for any ICE agent or any other federal agent or anybody trying to intimidate anybody at the polls," López said. "They're going to face prison sentences."…

Trump administration accused of ‘bullying’ union leader at consumer protection agency

Workers have viewed the relocation and return-to-office mandates at the agency as a means to force resignations, after an appeals court blocked attempted mass firings at the agency by the Trump administration in June 2026.

“An investigation with no stated scope or scale is no investigation – it’s a fishing expedition,” Wheeler said. “I have nothing to hide, and when the facts are examined this will be seen for what it is: bullying and intimidation for union activity and protected speech.”…

Appeals court rejects Trump bid to curb mail-in voting in 23 states

But Talwani, in siding with a coalition of 23 states and the District of Columbia that was led ‌by California, Massachusetts, Nevada and Washington state, said the president lacked any authority to direct DHS to compile voter eligibility lists for each state to use and that USPS had no statutory authorization to adopt any binding regulations on mail-in voting.

The judge, who was appointed by Barack Obama, said Trump also could not attempt through his order “to intimidate local election officials to use the necessarily incomplete confirmed citizenship lists as a resource, lest they face criminal prosecution”…

‘Fear, intimidation, violence’: calls mount to remove ICE from US streets after agents killed two men

“The bystander videos I watched make it clear that ICE agents carried out another extrajudicial public execution in Maine,” Lauren Bonds, the executive director of the National Police Accountability Project, said in a statement.

“It’s clear that the only way to prevent ICE from killing us in the streets is to remove ICE from the streets.”

Congress can do so, she added, by freezing funding to the agency and limiting their jurisdiction…

How an ex-US Marine became vital in the fight against Trump’s aggressive immigration enforcement

"I hope that people have learned that this administration, this president, mean what they say, even it if sounds absurd or anti-American or anti-democratic. They mean it. I absolutely think that this president wants to remain in power much longer, for as long as he can."

She adds: "My fear is that this is all a lead-up to potential use of the guard or the US military around the next election cycle. I'm not just dreaming about that. It's because it's been spoken about by very senior members of this administration and the president himself. That is incredibly alarming. It is not American to conduct elections with troops in the streets and to intimidate voters. It's very authoritarian."…

Pentagon to investigate Sen. Mark Kelly for anti-Trump video - POLITICO

Kelly, in a statement, dismissed the investigation. "If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it won't work," he said. The Supreme Court will decide if Trump can use the military against Americans | Vox

…So, there's a real chance that the Republican justices will resolve the Illinois case by simply assuming that order has broken down in Broadview and then interpreting the law as if Trump's claims are gospel. In the worst case scenario, they could also demand that lower courts defer to Trump even if he uses the military to suppress dissent or to intimidate Democratic voters...

Gavin Newsom requests files on border patrol operation at news conference | California | The Guardian

"Trump's use of the military and federal law enforcement to try to intimidate his political opponents is yet another dangerous step towards authoritarianism," Newsom wrote on social media. "This is an attempt to advance a playbook from the despots he admires in Russia and North Korea.

"The Trump administration needs to answer for this pathetic and cowardly behavior."…

Democrats say Trump is illegally blocking them from visiting Ice detention: ‘The goal is to bully us’

Democratic officials' legislative checks – a legal right for members of Congress – have consistently confirmed reports that immigrant detainees are being kept in "filthy" and "inhumane" conditions with little regard for due process. Now, the facilities have become a battleground in the intensifying standoff between the Trump administration and Democratic lawmakers over the president's supercharged immigration agenda.

"The administration's goal is to intimidate us and bully us, bully us out of doing our jobs for sure," Representative LaMonica McIver, a New Jersey Democrat who has been accused of assaulting federal agents during a confrontation at the Delaney Hall detention center, told the Guardian. "If they can get away with doing this to me, they can get away with doing it to anyone. But more importantly, imagine what they're doing in the dark to others who are not of an elected status, who are not in public eye view."…

Trump administration raises possibility of stripping Mamdani of US citizenship

Mamdani posted a statement on X in response. "The President of the United States just threatened to have me arrested, stripped of my citizenship, put in a detention camp and deported. Not because I have broken any law but because I will refuse to let Ice terrorize our city," he wrote.

He continued: "His statements don't just represent an attack on our democracy but an attempt to send a message to every New Yorker who refuses to hide in the shadows: if you speak up, they will come for you. We will not accept this intimidation."…

Why Trump is really going after Harvard | Donald Trump | The Guardian

Jason Johnson, a political scientist at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, said: "Their goal is to intimidate and break down institutions of higher learning in America because that is where most of the resistance to their authoritarian tendencies is going to come from.

"They figure, if we can bankrupt Harvard, if we can embarrass Harvard, if we can put Harvard in a position of weakness or at least get them to bend the knee, then all the other institutions in America will follow. That's why they're doing this."

Johnson warned: "Trump is not going to meet his match because he has the entire resources of the federal government at his disposal. Regardless of what Harvard does, there will be other universities who simply see the attack and comply in advance, and that ultimately would still be a victory for the Trump administration."…

Barack Obama and Kamala Harris publicly rebuke Trump’s second term actions | CNN Politics

"I'm more deeply concerned with a federal government that threatens universities if they don't give up students who are exercising their right to free speech," Obama told the crowd of college students. "The idea that a White House can say to law firms, if you represent parties that we don't like, we're going to pull all our business or bar you from representing people effectively. Those kinds of – that kind of behavior is contrary to the basic compact we have as Americans."
