Weekly Roundup: How Protest Became Terrorism in Trump's America (Bradley Onishi and Daniel Miller; Straight White American Jesus podcast)

This week, Brad Onishi argues that a series of seemingly separate headlines point to a single political project: the construction of a white Christian homeland.

He examines the unprecedented sentencing of the Prairie Land protesters under domestic terrorism charges, the Trump administration's growing use of "Antifa" as a catch-all label for political dissent, Supreme Court decisions affecting Temporary Protected Status, and the continued targeting of Haitian immigrants.

Together, Brad argues, these developments reflect an effort to criminalize protest, narrow who belongs in America, and reshape citizenship around the ideals of white Christian nationalism.

Brad also breaks down new efforts to restrict voting through the SAVE Act, analyzes the rhetoric of figures like Stephen Miller, Megyn Kelly, and Rep. Tom Emmer, and reflects on what Zohran Mamdani's growing political influence reveals about the future of the Democratic Party.

Sen. Mark Kelly Destroys Pete Hegesth & Trump For Trying To Strip Veterans Of Their Free Speech

Description: Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) is no stranger to having to deal with “Department of War” Secretary, Pete Hegseth. This time, Hegseth wants the Pentagon to investigate Kelly over comments Kelly made about U.S. weapon stockpiles amid the Iran War, claiming Kelly “leaked classified information”.

There’s just one problem: the remarks Kelly made that have Hegseth in such a drunken rage are actual public quotes Hegseth made himself. No, you’re not drunk like Hegseth at a strip club, you read that correctly. Senator Kelly nails it when he described Hegseth as “Hegseth doing an impression of Colin Jost impersonating Hegseth”.

So why is Hegseth going after Kelly exactly? It’s because clowns like Hegseth and Trump are scared of actual leadership.

Kelly joins us on the Find Out Podcast to explain how the Trump Administration is the least pro-Veteran administration he’s ever dealt with because of their attacks on Veterans freedom of speech. The Senator from Arizona makes the case for Democrats launching investigations into Trump’s actions when they take back the U.S. Senate along with making house affordability a key priority.

We’ll also talk about Republican Congresswoman Virginia Foxx of North Carolina telling a ten year old constituent to f*** off and Elon Musk’s Grok admits that Democrats are better on the U.S. economy than Republicans among other topics.

‘You unbelievable coward’: conservative US media in open warfare over Iran

The tension between Carlson and Levin traces back to at least June 2025, when Carlson accused Levin of "lobbying for war with Iran" during a private lunch with Trump at the White House. Levin called Carlson a "maggot", and Carlson referred to Levin as a "warmonger". He used the same label for another former Fox News colleague, Sean Hannity. (This week, Kelly called her former colleague Hannity "a supplicant to Donald Trump" and said "he would never say anything other than to puff Donald Trump up".)…

Grand jury declines to indict Democrats asking troops to refuse illegal orders

"Today, it was a grand jury of anonymous American citizens who upheld the rule of law and determined this case should not proceed," Slotkin said, describing it as "another sad day for our country". "Because whether or not Pirro succeeded is not the point. It's that President Trump continues to weaponize our justice system against his perceived enemies. It's the kind of thing you see in a foreign country, not in the United States we know and love."…

Pentagon to investigate Sen. Mark Kelly for anti-Trump video - POLITICO

Kelly, in a statement, dismissed the investigation. "If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it won't work," he said. "I've given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies who care more about their own power than protecting the Constitution."…

Weekly Roundup: Tylenol Trump at the UN + Political Violence (Bradley Onishi and Daniel Miller; Straight White American Jesus podcast)

This episode of Straight White American Jesus dives into a wide range of pressing issues, from the Trump administration’s controversial advice for pregnant women to avoid Tylenol—driven in part by RFK’s influence despite a lack of scientific support—to the broader political and patriarchal implications for public health.

The hosts examine how the right manipulates media through distraction and “flooding the zone,” using high-profile events like the murder of Charlie Kirk to bury stories such as the Epstein files.

They also unpack the escalation of political violence and rhetoric, highlighting the dangerous labeling of teachers and opponents as “terrorists” by figures like JD Vance, Kash Patel, Kristi Noem, and Steve Bannon. Megan Kelly’s dismissive response to an ICE bribery scandal serves as a window into how loyalty now trumps principles, while the erosion of good faith dialogue underscores the deepening polarization tied to identity and ideology.

Yet, amid the bleak landscape, the episode also points to reasons for hope, from Ryan Walters’ resignation as Oklahoma superintendent to Disney’s challenge of Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension, offering reminders that pushback and positive change are still possible.
