Senate Republicans block voting rights reform bill despite unified Democratic support - ABC News

Opinion | Manchin just got Republicans to admit their ‘election fraud’ concerns are nonsense - The Washington Post
…Sure, maybe Manchin was surprised by Republicans' knee-jerk rejection of his completely reasonable compromise. Another way to interpret last week's events is that Manchin slyly revealed Republicans' stated concerns about stolen elections — and their professed desire to work across the aisle — as the baloney they always were…

Opinion | Ted Cruz just sent a very important message to Joe Manchin - The Washington Post
… Republicans are implacably opposed not just to the particular items on the Democrats' legislative agenda but to the entire idea of allowing President Biden any meaningful legislative victories at all; their political interest lies in Biden being seen as a failure and Congress being seen as ineffectual. Therefore, the only way to achieve anything substantive and produce some measure of democratic responsiveness is to reform the filibuster so legislation can pass the Senate by simple majority...

Weaponizing Trump’s Big Lie: Ari Berman on GOP’s War on Democracy & Voting
Extreme voting restrictions have advanced in several Republican-led states across the U.S., including in Florida, where Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a sweeping voter suppression bill that will make it harder to vote by mail, limit ballot drop boxes, impose new voter ID requirements and criminalize giving food and water to voters waiting in line at polling places. Mother Jones reporter Ari Berman says these efforts are an extension of former President Trump’s “big lie” about voter fraud. “They’re trying to make it harder for Democratic constituencies to be able to vote in future elections, and they are trying to institutionalize voter suppression in a way that they couldn’t do in 2020,” Berman says. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a key Senate panel is set to take up the sweeping voting rights and election overhaul bill known as the For the People Act.

The ‘For The People Act’ And The Future Of Voting In America (The 1A)
This week, the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives is set to vote on a sweeping set of voting rights measures known as H.R. 1 or the “For the People Act.”
The bill includes measures like automatic registration for eligible voters, the elimination of voter ID requirements and the redrawing of district lines.
All of these measures are an attempt to expand access to voting — something at least one GOP attorney is on record as saying would be bad for the Republican party.
What does HR-1 mean for the future of voting in the U.S.? And what are its chances of making it to President Joe Biden’s desk?
