House Democrats introduce alternative war powers resolution - Live Updates - POLITICO

The new proposed resolution from the six lawmakers would call for an end to military operations in Iran within 30 days unless Congress provides authorization for use of military force or a declaration of war. In contrast, the resolution that is being forced for consideration Thursday from Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) would require the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iran...

Bernie Sanders and Ro Khanna propose bill to impose wealth tax on billionaires

"In its first year, the bill would provide a $3,000 direct payment to every man, woman and child in a household making $150,000 or less – $12,000 for a family of four – and use the estimated $4.4tn in revenue raised over the next decade to address the most pressing crises facing working families," per the press release.

In addition, the lawmakers said that the bill would use revenue from the wealth tax to expand medicare to cover dental, vision and hearing for millions of seniors, build, rehabilitate and preserve over 7m affordable homes, and more...

House Dem identifies ‘wealthy, powerful men’ DOJ redacted in Epstein files - Live Updates - POLITICO

"Why did it take Thomas Massie and me going to the Justice Department to get these six men's identities to become public?" he asked from the House floor. "And if we found six men that they were hiding in two hours, imagine how many men they are covering up for in those 3 million files."…

Making the Case: EPSTEIN ETC. - YouTube

Donald Trump REALLY doesn't want you to listen to this episode of Making the Case. Trump's name is in the Epstein files, and despite his best efforts to distract the general public, Republicans and Democrats alike aren't willing to let this go. Why was Maxwell transferred to a cushier prison mere days after her interview with the Deputy Attorney General? Why hasn't the DOJ investigated the financial aspects of the case? And do Bondi and Patel really believe their phony efforts to obtain Grand Jury documents will quell public outrage? In this episode of Making the Case, Senator Whitehouse discusses all these questions and more with Congressman Ro Khanna.

Ro Khanna takes on lobbyist power with anti-corruption ‘Drain the Swamp Act’

The "Drain the Swamp Act" – shared exclusively with the Guardian and deliberately invoking Trump's own 2016 campaign slogan – would convert into permanent law the ethics requirements previously established by executive order, including bans on lobbyist gifts and "revolving door" restrictions.

"He campaigned on draining the swamp, and yet he gets in there and he says, no, lobbyists can give gifts to White House officials," Khanna said. "What I'm saying is that we need to ban lobbyists from giving gifts to White House officials, not just this administration, but for all administrations going forward."…

Republican congressman says party should drop ‘food fight’ over leadership

The Democratic congressman Ro Khanna of California, who is seeking common ground with the so-called "department of government efficiency" that Trump wants Musk to lead, said on Sunday that the debate over H-1B visas for the tech industry was missing the point. If the US did not celebrate "the talent and genius and skills of people of diverse backgrounds" while also seeking to limit undocumented immigrants, the country would not lead the world in Nobel laureates in physics, medicine and chemistry, Khanna said.

"If there was some problem with the culture we wouldn't be the world's greatest economy of 30 trillion," Khanna told Fox News.

But Khanna also argued that the H-1B system keeps foreign workers in limbo because they are less able to negotiate salary and benefits compared with domestic hires – and they are hurt by unfair labor conditions...

Bernie Sanders and Ro Khanna reveal bill to ‘cancel all medical debt’ | US news | The Guardian

Sanders and Khanna described the legislation as vital for many families' financial security, as millions of Americans struggle with the burden of medical debt. According to a 2022 investigation by NPR and KFF Health News, more than 100 million Americans, including 41% of adults, hold some kind of healthcare debt. A KFF analysis of the Census Bureau's survey of income and program participation suggests that Americans owe at least $220bn in medical debt.

"This is the United States of America, the richest country in the history of the world. People in our country should not be going bankrupt because they got cancer and could not afford to pay their medical bills," Sanders said in a statement...

Progressive Democrat brings pitch to rural America

Khanna's alignment with the tech sector distinguishes him from progressives like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who has been critical of the industry's influence. While Khanna is clear-eyed about areas for improvement, such as privacy and data protection, he believes it offers the party opportunities as well.

A glimpse into that vision for Democrats was recently on display, when several dozen young people engaged in a discussion around a new tech development and career training program.

The initiative, dubbed the Techwise program in partnership with TalentSprint Inc., combines the hiring power of Google with students at Des Moines Area Community College and other community colleges in areas with less of a natural link to the tech world. It's intended to propel students into specific early tech careers like software engineering after just 18 months…
