President Donald Trump, in an interview released Friday, suggested he was "disappointed" with how the Republican-controlled Congress has handled big issues like healthcare during his administration.

In an interview with Fox News' Martha MacCallum, Trump said he was "disappointed" that Congress had not handled what MacCallum called the "big issues" during the president's first 100 days in office....

Republican Senate bows to lobby groups, shuts down judicial nominations

Conservative groups like Heritage Action gave the Republican Senate their marching orders: no more Obama judges. And Senate Republicans are toeing the line. The blockade is now full on, from boycotting hearings to preventing action to even blocking their own home-state judges.

Hardly any GOP members of the Senate Judiciary Committee showed up to a hearing this month to vote out a batch of Obama’s court picks. There were so many missing members the committee didn’t have the 11 people it needed to reach a quorum, which meant no one could do anything. That left the eight Democrats and two Republicans who did show up just sitting there, looking at each other. […]

Gridlock in states: why they're mimicking D.C.

Hold the mirror up to dysfunctional Washington, D.C., and what folks in Pennsylvania see is their own state capitol. Different dome. Similar gridlock. The same could also be said of people who live in Illinois.

Both states are mired in gridlock as Republicans and Democrats in divided governments stare each other down. The standoffs have affected the most basic function of these state capitals – agreeing on a budget....
