‘ICE will comply’: Top Minnesota judge threatens criminal contempt for continued defiance - POLITICO

The top federal judge in Minnesota tore into Justice Department leaders Thursday and threatened potential criminal consequences for officials who he said were continuing to violate court orders at a historic clip amid President Donald Trump's mass deportation push.

"This Court will continue to do whatever is required to protect the rule of law, including, if necessary, moving to the use of criminal contempt," said Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz in a message posted on the docket of an immigration case he is presiding over. "One way or another, ICE will comply with this Court's orders."…

Republicans divided on Trump's court order defiance - The Washington Post

Many right-leaning defenses of the deportations rationalize that these are bad people who aren't entitled to due process because they are migrants. But without due process, it's difficult to ascertain whether they are actually as bad as the administration suggests. That leaves open the possibility that the wrong people were targeted...

Justice Department tells judges it can't comply with court-ordered deadline to release frozen aid funding

"By halting disbursements to Plaintiffs — American businesses and nonprofits — even for work they had already performed, and which already had been reviewed and cleared for payment, the funding freeze plunged Plaintiffs into sudden financial turmoil. Without funds to meet their operating expenses, which in many cases they must continue to incur under the terms of their awards, the funding freeze has left them facing imminent collapse. Already, Plaintiffs have had to furlough or lay off thousands of American workers," their filing said. "Meanwhile, many of those who depend on their programming face starvation, disease, and death."…

No, Biden did not defy a Supreme Court order - The Washington Post

If Biden had in fact defied the Supreme Court, his critics could have asked judges to hold him and his administration in contempt, touching off a true constitutional crisis. There's a reason none of that ever happened.

JD Vance’s ‘Constitutional Crisis’ in the Making - POLITICO

"What Trump is trying to do is create a sort of authoritarian type of government where he can manipulate the civil service system to do what he wants," said Kenneth Warren, a professor at St. Louis University whose areas of expertise include administrative law and the administrative state. "That's very, very dangerous." …

Vance's proposal for Trump to simply defy the Supreme Court if it threw out Schedule F is also deeply concerning. It runs contrary to our collective, basic and firmly embedded civic understanding that the Supreme Court has the last word on what the law is in this country, for better or worse. Americans may not like it — they frequently and at times vocally do not — but it is a broadly accepted fact of American governance, and Vance's evident willingness to reject it is worrisome…

The Supreme Court Has Itself to Blame for Texas Defying Its Orders

One of the maddening and self-contradictory aspects of conservative propaganda on this issue is that Republicans frequently cite metrics that indicate just how closed the border is, as if they demonstrated the opposite. Earlier this month, House Republican Oversight Committee Chair James Comer released a statement condemning Biden's "open border policies" while announcing that "Fiscal Year 2022 set records for the number of arrests of illegal border crossers, the number of migrants who died making the journey, the number of dangerous narcotics seized, and even the number of suspected terrorists arrested trying to illegally cross the border."

The reason that migrants are being arrested and dying on the way, and that drugs are being seized, is that the border is not open.

Republicans now say it might be okay to ignore the Supreme Court - The Washington Post

The Supreme Court is the institution we charge with interpreting our Constitution; we now have a sitting U.S. governor and a congressman suggesting it's okay to ignore what the court says if you have a different interpretation…

Michigan judge John McBain ripped by appeals court after defying its ruling in Dawn Dixon-Bey murder sentence - The Washington Post

…He abandoned his "role as an impartial magistrate and instead usurped the role of prosecutor," the appellate judges wrote in their opinion, adding that McBain "plainly violated the defendant's rights."

One of those judges, Amy Ronayne Krause, was more blunt on Dec. 14 when the court heard oral arguments in the case. She said she'd read the transcript of Dixon-Bey's sentencing hearing. Her verdict: It was "hideous," the AP reported…
