‘Elite North Korean group’ blamed for $6.3bn Binance hack in biggest ever crypto heist

Binance was founded in 2017 by Changpeng Zhao, who in 2023 pleaded guilty to a felony in the US related to his failure to prevent money laundering on the platform and stepped down as CEO. Donald Trump pardoned him in 2025…

“It may further dampen risk appetite and prompt investors to reassess the safety of assets held on centralised exchanges, as well as counterparty, solvency and liquidity risks,” said Tim Sun, a senior researcher at HashKey Group, based in Hong Kong…

Volume II Catch-22 (Andrew McCabe and Allison Gill; Unjustified podcast)

A high profile hacking group claims it has breached multiple FBI-related services and stolen data “on all FBI employees and applicants.”

Lawyers for several FBI agents fired by Kash Patel have filed a motion asking Judge Aileen Cannon how they’re supposed to testify in the “Grand Conspiracy” case without violating her order prohibiting conveyance of anything in Volume II of Jack Smith’s final report.

Lawyers for former federal prosecutor Sheri Mecklenburg say she retired Thursday from the Justice Department — a week before a federal judge is expected to hold a crucial hearing over the mishandling of the “Broadview Six” case.

The Justice Department argues the recent Supreme Court ruling widening the President’s power to fire certain agency leaders also extends to Maureen Comey.

Iran-linked hackers take aim at U.S. and other targets, raising risk of cyberattacks during war | PBS News

Hackers supporting Iran claimed responsibility for a significant cyberattack Wednesday against U.S. medical device company Stryker. Since the war began Feb. 28, they also have tried to penetrate cameras in Middle Eastern countries to improve Iran's missile targeting. White House assisting probe of 'sophisticated' hack into FBI surveillance system - POLITICO

The incident also bears some resemblance to the sweeping campaign carried out against global telecommunications systems in 2024 by Chinese state hacking group Salt Typhoon — the extent of which is still not fully understood by U.S. officials.

Democratic lawmakers, former members of the Biden administration and even some FBI officials have repeatedly warned that the telecommunications providers breached in the 2024 hack never managed to fully evict Salt Typhoon...

Microsoft “Digital Escorts” Could Expose Defense Dept. Data to Chinese Hackers — ProPublica

The arrangement, which was critical to Microsoft winning the federal government's cloud computing business a decade ago, relies on U.S. citizens with security clearances to oversee the work and serve as a barrier against espionage and sabotage.

But these workers, known as "digital escorts," often lack the technical expertise to police foreign engineers with far more advanced skills, ProPublica found. Some are former military personnel with little coding experience who are paid barely more than minimum wage for the work.

"We're trusting that what they're doing isn't malicious, but we really can't tell," said one current escort who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity, fearing professional repercussions…
