Supreme Court allows immigration officials to turn away asylum seekers at the border - POLITICO

Sotomayor painted the court’s decision as a stark abandonment of people fleeing persecution, noting that U.S. asylum laws were “developed in response to the international moral reckoning that followed the Holocaust and World War II.”…

Israeli strikes kill 18 in Gaza and patient crossings at Rafah halted, Palestinian officials say

Israeli tank shelling and airstrikes have killed 18 people, including four children, in Gaza and Israel has halted the evacuation of patients through the Rafah border crossing, Palestinian officials have said.

The Israeli military said it fired on Gaza after a gunman shot at Israeli soldiers and seriously injured a reservist...

‘Yellow line’ that divides Gaza under Trump plan is ‘new border’ for Israel, says military chief

Palestinians were forced out of this eastern portion of Gaza by Israeli attacks and evacuation orders. Almost all the surviving population, over 2 million people, are now crowded into a narrow zone of coastal sand dunes that is smaller than Washington DC...

Opinion | America’s forgotten billionaires are at last given voice by Trump - The Washington Post

Members of the reality-based community might have noticed that Trump did not do any of these things but rather is claiming credit for the Biden administration's accomplishments.
  • Illegal crossings along the southern border are now lower than they were at the end of Trump's first term. (And Mexico's president, contrary to Trump's claim, said, "We reiterate that Mexico's position is not to close borders.")
  • It was the Biden administration that brokered the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.
  • Opioid deaths have been dropping at the fastest rate ever and are at or below levels seen at this point in Trump's first term. (And Canada's public safety minister describes the country's offer to Trump to boost border security measures as a "reassurance exercise" because "we believe that the border is secure.")
  • As for the stock market, the S&P 500 hit 47 record highs this year before Election Day...

GOP wants to hold Harris’s immigration record against her - what did she do?

As vice-president, Harris was handed a daunting mission at the onset of her term: to address the "root causes" of migration from the northern triangle countries of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. But at no point was she put in charge of border policy. That is the responsibility of the Homeland Security secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, who was with Harris when she visited the border in June 2021, three months after she was given the assignment.

Instead, Harris's mandate, as laid out by the president, was to meet with government officials and private sector partners to tackle enduring problems in the region, such as poverty, violence and a lack of economic opportunity, that drive people to migrate from their home countries to the United States, said Theresa Cardinal Brown, a senior adviser of immigration and border policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center.

"It was a diplomatic and development focus," she said, "not a border focus."

Sen. Tommy Tuberville Says We Must Secure The Border So We Can Get God Back in Government

Sen. Tommy Tuberville says we must secure the border so that we can get God back in government: "You can't do that when you have a million people every couple of months coming to this country that know nothing about God."

Michael Steele (The Al Franken podcast)

The former Chair of the Republican National Committee talks to Al about the upcoming election and what to expect from Trump and the Republicans in Congress, how their goal is power for themselves, not the good of the people.

An example includes their plot to prevent passing a bill to solve the border and immigration crisis so that Trump can say Biden is failing to secure the border.

US border policy deal within reach despite efforts by Trump to derail it, senators say

"I think the border is a very important issue for Donald Trump," the Utah senator Mitt Romney, a Republican who has pressed his party to approve military aid for Ukraine, told reporters on Capitol Hill on Thursday. "And the fact that he would communicate to Republican senators and congresspeople that he doesn't want us to solve the border problem because he wants to blame Biden for it is really appalling."

He continued: "The reality is that we have a crisis at the border, the American people are suffering as a result of what's happening at the border. And someone running for president ought to try and get the problem solved as opposed to saying: 'Hey, save that problem. Don't solve it. Let me take credit for solving it later.'"…

At a press conference earlier this week, the Texas senator Ted Cruz, a Republican, denounced the proposal, the details of which have not yet been released, as a "stinking pile of crap" that "represents Senate Republican leadership waging war on House Republicans".

Cruz alleged that the negotiators involved cared only about supporting Ukraine and not fixing the issues at the southern border….

Audio clip of President Joe Biden threatening war against Texas is fake - PolitiFact

Homeland Security's letter warned that if Texas did not stop its border blockade, it would refer the matter to the Justice Department "for appropriate action and consider all other options available to restore Border Patrol's access to the border."

But neither Biden nor his administration have threatened to send F-15s to the border to "wage war against Texas." We rate this claim False...
