Uber driver turns in Jan. 6 rioter who bragged about Capitol attack on dashcam

…While the FBI affidavit doesn't state it outright, online sleuths also played a significant role in the case against Braun. How Uber Is SCAMMING You

The ride-hailing company Uber is everywhere: it has rapidly become one of the most ubiquitous corporate entities in the United States. But beneath all of its bluster, Uber has a big secret: there’s no profit, no gains in efficiency or effectiveness, and, above all, no innovation. Simply put, Uber is one of the biggest scams in American economic history. And it’s not just scamming its investors (although it definitely is): it’s scamming you – its users – and, most of all, it’s scamming its drivers. While they get rich, you get ripped off. Report: Uber Used a Tool to Remotely Hide Data From Investigators on Two Dozen Occasions -- Slate

Uber used a data-concealing tool to sidestep government investigations on at least two dozen occasions from 2015 to 2016, according to a report from Bloomberg. Three anonymous sources with knowledge of the alleged ploy told reporters that a team in the rideshare company's headquarters had control over a system named "Ripley," which allowed them to remotely change passwords, restrict access to data, and shut off computers and other devices in Uber offices ....

10 percent of Americans trading in a car plan to use Uber and Lyft instead of buying a new one

Wally Nowinski got his first car when he turned 16 in Michigan, the home of the U.S. auto industry. But after two years of living in New York City, he sold his wheels, using ride services, carsharing and bike sharing to get around. "My mom didn't think I could do it. She thought I would buy a new car in six months," he said.

But that was more than a year ago, and his car budget of $820 per month fell to $250 for carsharing and ride services last year....

Betsy DeVos compares education to Uber or Lyft, but it's what's missing that's most disturbing

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos showed just how much she hates the very idea of public education in a major speech on “school choice” at the Brookings Institution. DeVos either doesn’t understand or refuses to acknowledge that if the United States is going to educate all of its kids, not just the lucky ones, we need to think about education as a public good, not a series of fragmented, privatized pieces. DeVos drew a comparison that tells us a lot about how she sees education—and what she doesn’t want to see:...

Video shows WPD sergeant falsely telling citizen to stop recording

A Wilmington police sergeant is shown on video instructing a citizen who was pulled over for a traffic stop that he is not allowed to record the interaction due to a new state law prohibiting the recording of police interactions.
