Retort to Putin for ‘messing around’ by demanding Moscow talks

The Ukrainian foreign minister, Andriy Sybiga, hit out at Vladimir Putin after the Russian president said peace talks with Volodymr Zelenskyy should take place in Moscow. Sybiga said at least seven countries were ready to host a meeting: Austria, the Vatican, Switzerland, Turkey and three Gulf States. “These are serious proposals, and President Zelenskyy is ready for such a meeting at any time,” Sybiga said. “Putin continues to mess around with everyone by making knowingly unacceptable proposals.”

Don’t buy Moscow’s shameless campaign tying Biden to its terrorist attack | The Hill

The tragic terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow killed over 140 and left dozens more with serious injuries. Despite ISIS-K claiming responsibility, as well as warnings from both the U.S. and Iran of potential terrorist actions on Russian soil, Moscow continues to point the finger at others. Some Russian officials have stated that the U.S. did not provide specific enough intelligence concerning the anticipated attack; others have said the intelligence was never transmitted in the first place.

Others have suggested that the United States and the broader West are somehow responsible…

Rocked by Deadly Terror Attack, Kremlin Amps Up Disinformation Machine - The New York Times

The bloody terrorist attack on a concert hall near Moscow had barely subsided before Russia launched a disinformation campaign suggesting that Ukraine and the West were somehow behind it, pushing a version of events molded to fit the Kremlin war narrative and downplay a significant security failure.

President Vladimir V. Putin has hinted several times that Kyiv and Washington played a part, and the latest to join the chorus was Aleksandr Bortnikov, the director of the Federal Security Service, the top security agency in Russia. On Tuesday he said, without offering any evidence, that the assault "was prepared by both radical Islamists themselves and, naturally, facilitated by Western special services."…

Communists turn out for protest in Moscow - The Washington Post

The communists had their turn Saturday at protesting the upcoming city elections with a rally at which they attacked both Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party and its liberal opposition. The gathering was heavy on flags and banners whipping in the rain and chill wind, but turnout was only about 4,000, less than a tenth of last week’s big opposition demonstration. Nonetheless, it kept the series of weekly protests over the striking of candidates from the city ballot going for the sixth straight Saturday.....

Trump Praises Putin Instead of Critiquing Cuts to U.S. Embassy Staff - The New York Times

President Trump offered gratitude rather than outrage on Thursday for Russia’s decision to force the United States Embassy in Moscow to slash its personnel by 755 people, despite bipartisan condemnation from other American leaders who protested the Cold War-style move.

President Vladimir V. Putin last month ordered the seizure of two American diplomatic properties and directed the American Embassy staff in Russia be cut by more than half in retaliation for sanctions imposed by Congress because of Russia’s meddling in last year’s presidential election in the United States.

“I want to thank him because we’re trying to cut down on payroll, and as far as I’m concerned, I’m very thankful that he let go of a large number of people, because now we have a smaller payroll,” Mr. Trump told reporters...
