Trump Just Used a $500 Million Clean Steel Grant to Fund a Coal Furnace – Mother Jones

Today’s announcement makes official what Cliffs has been signaling would happen in recent months. The change of plans has drawn pushback from green-steel advocates and some Middletown residents, who say they are dismayed that funding meant to slash industrial emissions could potentially amp up local air pollution instead...

Against the wind: despite Trump’s attacks, unions are fighting for good US clean energy jobs

The clean jobs bonanza the IRA helped set in motion met major roadblocks when Donald Trump was re-elected in 2024. Since returning to office, the president has moved to dismantle much of Biden’s climate agenda, including by targeting the federal incentives that helped drive clean-energy investment...

Trump shows off article on lower drug prices that says Biden deserves credit, not him

“The Inflation Reduction Act was a signature accomplishment of former president Joe Biden, a sprawling measure enacted in 2022 that aimed to lower prescription drug prices by requiring Medicare, the federal health program for the elderly, to begin negotiating the prices it pays drugmakers for an array of popular and costly prescription drugs,” the Post’s report noted. “The first price reductions took effect at the beginning of this year.”…

38 Republicans call for ‘full repeal’ of Democrats’ energy tax credits

Congress kills Biden era methane fee on oil, gas producers | Reuters

The methane fee was mandated by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which directed the EPA to set a charge on methane emissions for facilities that emit more than 25,000 tons per year of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Methane is the most prevalent greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide that tends to leak into the atmosphere undetected from drill sites, gas pipelines and other oil and gas infrastructure...

Biden’s green policies will save 200,000 lives and have boosted clean energy jobs, data shows

Bob O'Keefe, executive director of E2, said the IRA has helped lead "an American economic revolution the likes of which we haven't seen in generations".

"But we're just getting started," Keefe added. "The biggest threats to this unprecedented progress are misguided efforts to repeal or roll back parts of the IRA, despite the law's clear benefits both to American workers and the communities where they live."…

If Trump and Vance win the election, this is what’s at stake | JD Vance | The Guardian

This funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the $370bn bill to turbocharge clean energy signed by Biden after narrowly passing Congress via Democratic votes in 2022, has been far less thrilling to Vance, however, despite his deep personal ties to the Cleveland-Cliffs plant...

Project 2025 promises billions of tonnes more carbon pollution – study

Project 2025 calls for a widespread evisceration of environmental protections, allowing for a glut of new oil and gas drilling, the repeal of the IRA and even the elimination of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service so they can be replaced by private companies. The conservative Heritage Foundation, which leads Project 2025, has said a new Trump administration should "eradicate climate change references from absolutely everywhere"…

It would also, according to the new modeling, cause several thousand extra premature deaths by the end of the decade due to worsened air pollution, and cause a bump in Americans' household costs compared to a path of more ambitious climate action. The Project 2025 team did not respond to a request for comment…

The IRS got $80B to help people and chase tax avoiders. Here's how it's going : NPR

"So we, for example, created a high-risk list of 1,600 millionaires and billionaires who owe back taxes. And we've put in a laser-focused effort to collect that money. And the new resources under the Inflation Reduction Act help us to do that. And we're working our way through that list. In just several months, we've collected nearly $200 million in back taxes, and we're not even through the list yet. So that demonstrates to you how much money is out there that is owed to the IRS. People want to know that the IRS is doing its part so that everyone is paying what they owe regardless of their income level…"

New results help prove that the Democrats’ IRS plan is working

"The IRS announced Friday that it has recently collected more than half a billion dollars from millionaire Americans who owed tax debt. The agency credited the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act for its stepped-up ability to pursue "high-income, high-wealth individuals," as well as complex partnerships and large corporations, who are not paying overdue tax bills."

White House issues veto threat of House GOP defense bill | The Hill

The administration "strongly opposes" the House version of the bill, according to the statement. It outlined that when Biden and Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) negotiated a debt limit deal in May, the agreement "held spending for non-defense programs roughly flat with FY 2023 levels, a compromise that protected vital programs Americans rely on from draconian cuts House Republicans proposed."

This bill, the statement said, cuts domestic spending below the agreement and the White accused Republicans of "wasting time with partisan bills."

…The deal from May also protected Biden's top legislative accomplishments, like the Inflation Reduction Act, the PACT Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the infrastructure law. But, the House defense appropriations bill includes provisions that would repeal parts of the Inflation Reduction Act, according to the statement.
