U.S. citizen detained by ICE questions vote for Trump: 'Just following Hispanic people'

"They didn't ask me for any ID," Machado said. "I was telling the officer if I can give him ID, but he said just keep my hands up, not moving. After that, he told me to get out of the car and put the handcuffs on me."…

Ice contractor plans for surveillance boom under Trump migrant crackdown

The Geo Group, a private prison corporation and parent company of BI Inc, has contracted with Ice for nearly 20 years to manage the agency's electronic monitoring program. It currently tracks approximately 186,000 immigrants using devices such as ankle monitors, smart watches and a facial recognition app, according to public Ice data. Due to increasing demand from Donald Trump's administration, which has promised mass deportations, company executives said that they expect that number to grow past its previous peak of 370,000 to 450,000 immigrants within the next year...

Misleading Ice data ‘laying groundwork’ for mass deportations, advocates say

The recent arrest data from Ice does not say where the arrests took place, or how many people the federal agents arrested had prior convictions, data points necessary to understand whether the administration is actually arresting the so-called worst first...

Trump Is Not Deporting Only “Criminals” – Mother Jones

"There is no way for the Trump administration to achieve any of its enforcement goals without targeting immigrants with no criminal histories," noted Austin Kocher, who researches immigration enforcement. And that's exactly what is happening. NBC News and NPR recently reported that scores of immigrants without criminal histories have been arrested...

After border bill failure, ICE considers mass releases to close budget gap - The Washington Post

The bipartisan border bill that Republican lawmakers opposed last weekwould have provided $6 billion in supplemental funding for ICE enforcement operations. The bill's demise has led ICE officials to begin circulating an internal proposal to save money by releasing thousands of detainees and cutting detention levels from 38,000 beds to 22,000 — the opposite of the enforcement increases Republicans say they want...

'Barbaric' and 'negligent' treatment in ICE detention, inspections found : NPR

In Michigan, a man in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was sent into a jail's general population unit with an open wound from surgery, no bandages and no follow-up medical appointment scheduled, even though he still had surgical drains in place.

A federal inspector found: "The detainee never received even the most basic care for his wound."…

The Supreme Court will decide if a Trump judge can seize control of ICE, in United States v. Texas - Vox

In case there is any doubt, this is not how the Supreme Court behaved when Trump was in office. During the Trump administration, the Court's Republican-appointed majority was so quick to intervene when a lower court judge blocked one of Trump's policies that Justice Sonia Sotomayor complained that her colleagues were "putting a thumb on the scale in favor of" the Trump administration...

US Ice officers 'used torture to make Africans sign own deportation orders'

US immigration officers allegedly tortured Cameroonian asylum seekers to force them to sign their own deportation orders, in what lawyers and activists describe as a brutal scramble to fly African migrants out of the country in the run-up to the elections. Many of the Cameroonian migrants in a Mississippi detention centre refused to sign, fearing death at the hands of Cameroonian government forces responsible for widespread civilian killings, and because they had asylum hearings pending.....

ICE Has Plastered Graphic Billboards About Immigration On Highways Around Pennsylvania

Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday installed bold black-and-red billboards along highways across the key swing state of Pennsylvania, depicting the faces of, as ICE put it, “at-large immigration violators who may pose a public safety threat.” Current and former ICE officials, along with legal experts, labeled the move as politically motivated, a naked attempt to use the wedge issue of immigration to help President Donald Trump in his reelection bid.....
