Richard Burr Demands Assurance That Senators Working from Home Will Still Get Stock Tips | The New Yorker

Amid speculation that United States senators might soon be working remotely, Senator Richard Burr on Friday demanded guarantees that senators working from home will still have access to insider-trading tips. Speaking from the well of the Senate, an impassioned Burr, a Republican from North Carolina, said that a “system needs to be put in place—not tomorrow, not next week, but today—to insure that senators receive the insider-trading information that is both our lifeblood and our birthright.”

Sen. Richard Burr Told Private GOP Audience Three Weeks Ago That Coronavirus Would Be Dire: Secret Recording

Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) warned a private group of business executives three weeks ago that the novel coronavirus would have severe impacts on the nation, according to a secret recording obtained by NPR reporter Tim Mak. At the same time that President Trump was telling the public that the virus would probably “disappear,” Burr, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told the members-only Tar Heel Circle in North Carolina that the virus was “probably more akin to the 1918 pandemic.”

The Senate investigation into Trump-Russia is a hot mess

About two months ago, news emerged that Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) had made calls to reporters as part of a White House-directed effort to tamp down reports about contact between Trump campaign members and Russian intelligence officials.

That news rightfully drew into question Burr’s ability to oversee an impartial investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. In late March, however, Burr and Senate Intelligence Committee held a joint news conference where they portrayed themselves as ready to work together in a bipartisan effort to get to the bottom of Trump’s Russia ties.

But on Monday, both the Daily Beast and Yahoo reported that the Senate investigation of Trump-Russia is a mess, in large part because Burr is obstructing things....

5 Revelations from the Senate Intelligence Committee's First Public Hearing on Russia and the 2016 Elections

Led by chairman Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) and vice chairman Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA), the Senate Intelligence Committee held its first public hearing Thursday on Russia's interference in the 2016 elections. Equal parts illuminating and harrowing, it offered fresh insight into the Kremlin's spy games and raised new questions about the Trump administration's possible collusion with Putin. Everything We Learned Today About The Senate Intel Committee’s Russia Probe

One thing was made crystal clear in a Wednesday press briefing on the Senate Intelligence Committee’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election: this investigation is a very big and very serious deal.

In an hour-long appearance, committee Chair Richard Burr (R-NC) and Vice-Chair Mark Warner (D-VA) framed their probe as one of most ambitious investigative efforts ever taken on by a congressional committee.

Burr, a 22-year veteran of Capitol Hill, framed the investigation as “one of the biggest” he’s seen in his tenure in Washington, D.C. Warner concurred, saying, “When we started this, we saw the scope, what was involved, I said it was the most important thing I have ever taken on in my public life. I believe that more firmly now.”...

Fables of the Republican obstruction: Richard Burr and Ross Douthat try — and fail — to make their blatantly partisan obstructionism sound principled

Over the weekend, North Carolina Senator Richard Burr became the latest Republican to indicate that the Senate will continue its policy of what amounts to judicial nullification by blocking any justices nominated for the Supreme Court by a Democratic president.

Speaking to a bunch of GOP volunteers at a private event, Burr promised that Merrick Garland, nominated by President Obama to fill Antonin Scalia's seat, will not get a confirmation vote even in the lame-duck congressional session after taking office in January, Burr said the following:

And if Hillary Clinton becomes president, I am going to do everything I can do to make sure four years from now, we still got an opening on the Supreme Court....
