US rightwing group planned $6m for anti-trans messaging in 2022 midterms

But the Women's Bill of Rights is a weapon in a war against gender equity being waged by a conservative non-profit women's group. Independent Women's Voice, or IWV, lobbies against the equal rights amendment, criticizes public school curriculum and opposes government-funded parental leave. Recently, they have turned their resources to fighting transgender rights. And, according to documents shared with the Guardian by watchdog True North Research, IWV budgeted nearly $6m to promote anti-trans messaging in 10 swing states in advance of last year's midterms...

Kari Lake loses bid to overturn election results in Arizona - The Washington Post

Tom Liddy, an attorney for Maricopa County, confirmed to The Washington Post that the county will be seeking sanctions.
"A lawyer may not go to court without the evidence necessary for a chance to prevail," Liddy said. "Lake had to make up 17,117 votes. She failed to identify one lawful ballot that was not counted, or one ballot that was counted that should not have been — and she knew that before she filed the contest."…

Updated: GOP group celebrates recount of hundreds of Michigan precincts over Proposals 2 and 3 ⋆ Michigan Advance

"The absurdity of this recount is laughable. There is absolutely no circumstance under which this recount will change the result of the election. None. This is a waste of the recount requestor's money and it is a waste of taxpayer dollars because the deposit required under statute will in no way cover the actual costs of completing the recount."

Crime coverage on Fox News halved once US midterms were over

Gertz said Tucker Carlson, Fox News' most-watched host, had a big part to play in the coverage – and in how Republicans across the country used crime as an issue. In a monologue in August, Carlson advised Republican politicians to focus their campaigns on "law and order", which he said would result in a "red wave" in the midterms.
Republicans did just that, spending millions on ads which highlighted instances of violent crime and portrayed Democrats, like John Fetterman, running for US Senate in Pennsylvania, as responsible. The Washington Post reported that Republicans spent nearly $50m on ads focused on crime between 5 September and 25 October, far outspending Democrats on the issue...
