In Georgia, Harris’s Muslim Backers Push Her as Better Than the Alternative - The New York Times
With polls still showing the presidential race a dead heat against former President Donald J. Trump, Ms. Harris's Muslim backers in Georgia are making a frantic push to reach voters who are angry and upset about the escalating violence in the Mideast. One attendee showed up to the gathering in Dunwoody with a message he hoped the others there would hear, and spread — that if the humanitarian crisis in Gaza was their top concern, Mr. Trump and Republicans would be worse…
Americans use the Book of Revelation to talk about immigration – and always have
When the former president says those at the border are "poisoning the blood of our country," "animals" and "rapists," his vocabulary mirrors verses from the New Testament. The Book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible, says those kept out of the city of God are "filthy"; they are "dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood." …
Iconic Gun-Makers Gave Sensitive Customer Information to Political Operatives — ProPublica
At least 10 gun industry businesses, including Glock, Smith & Wesson, Remington, Marlin and Mossberg, handed over names, addresses and other private data to the gun industry's chief lobbying group, the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The NSSF then entered the gun owners' details into what would become a massive database...
Harris praises John Kelly for sending ‘911 call’ to the US over Trump’s fitness to serve
"He's going to sit there – unstable, unhinged, plotting his revenge, plotting his retribution, creating an enemies list," Harris said. "My list will be a list of how I address and continue to address the issues that you all are raising this afternoon and evening. It will be a to-do list about how we can impact the American people."…

What I learned when Turning Points USA came to my campus | Cas Mudde | The Guardian
Fourth, and most optimistically, the sea of Maga hats also gave me a shimmer of hope for the upcoming election. Since Trump's shock 2016 win, the media has obsessed about "shy Trump supporters", that is, people who support Trump in the elections but do not say so in polls because of social desirability. Although empirical evidence has always been weak, the "shy Trump voter" never disappeared from the public debate. Seeing these students wear the Maga hats, not for fun or provocation, but as a "normal" expression of support for the "conservative" candidate in the presidential election, confirmed my suspicion that there are no "shy Trumpers" left in 2024.
And, if this is true, there might still be hope, in the sense that the current polls are overrepresenting the Trump vote, because they are overcompensating for a dated phenomenon, the shy Trump voter, yet another victim of the normalization of Trump...
The list of Harris’ Republican backers adds some striking new names
"Former Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., endorsed Harris for president today, saying in a statement released by the vice president's campaign that he has 'never voted for a Democrat for president, until now.'"
The Atlantic responds to Elon Musk sharing fake image of magazine
On Tuesday evening, Musk reshared a fake image on X that showed an article from the magazine reading "Trump Is Literally Hitler." The article was never written for or published by The Atlantic, but Musk appeared to take the image as truth, commenting, "They are literally foaming at the mouth 😂."…
Opinion | Trump’s Election Reversal Dreams Are Dead - The New York Times
"I'm not arguing that we should be complacent. We should expect MAGA lawyers to bombard courts and state legislatures with frivolous arguments to try to reverse the outcome if Trump loses — and we shouldn't be shocked or surprised if MAGA ultimately resorts to violence like it did on Jan. 6 — but I don't think most Americans know how well our election system has been fortified against Trump's legal schemes. He can't run the same playbook he ran in 2020..."
The Group at the Center of Trump’s Planning for a Second Term Is One You Haven’t Heard of - The New York Times
It calls for halting federal funding for Planned Parenthood and for mandatory ultrasounds before abortions, including those carried out with medication. It seeks to make concealed weapons permits reciprocal in all 50 states, increase petroleum production, remove the United States from the Paris Agreement, impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients and establish legally only two genders...
Judge strikes down Ohio abortion ban as unconstitutional | Ohio | The Guardian
"This is a momentous ruling, showing the power of Ohio's new Reproductive Freedom Amendment in practice," Jessie Hill, cooperating attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, said. "The six-week ban is blatantly unconstitutional and has no place in our law."…
Trump Flirts With the Ultimate Tax Cut: No Income Taxes at All - The New York Times
Either way, both liberal and conservative experts have dismissed his idea as mathematically impossible and economically destructive. Even if Republicans control Congress, lawmakers are unlikely to dismantle the income tax system. Yet Mr. Trump's combination of tax cuts and tariff increases has been central to his political pitch.
"There is a way, if what I'm planning comes out," Mr. Trump said of ending income taxes...
Tucker Carlson frames Trump as America's abusive dad in disturbing speech
Carlson, who's scheduled to headline an event with Trump in Arizona on Halloween, told the crowd in Georgia:
There has to be a point at which Dad comes home. Yeah, that's right. Dad comes home. And he's pissed. Dad is pissed. He's not vengeful. He loves his children. Disobedient as they may be, he loves them because they're his children. They live in his house. But he's very disappointed in their behavior and he's going to have to let them know.
He continued:
'Get to your room right now and think about what you did!' And when Dad gets home, you know what he says? "You've been a bad girl. You've been a bad little girl and you're getting a vigorous spanking right now. And no, it's not going to hurt me more than it hurts you. No, it's not. I'm not going to lie. This is going to hurt you a lot more than it hurts me. And you earned this. You're getting a vigorous spanking because you've been a bad girl.'
