An ad included a deceptively edited video of David Jolly, the Democratic nominee for Florida governor, talking about “embracing” gender-affirming care. The full clip shows Jolly was quoting another person talking about their family being open to medical care for a transgender adolescent.
Gender-affirming care is a broad term that can include using a different name or pronouns. Treatments are typically available only to adolescents and can include puberty blockers, hormone therapy and, in rare cases, surgeries for older teens.
Jolly said he supports people being able to make medical decisions with their doctor. His campaign did not clarify whether this includes gender-affirming surgeries for minors under 18. These surgeries are not performed on young children…
